Melf's Guide to Greyhawk

D&D General Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Coming From Luke Gygax & WotC

Recouping with his Facebook showing identical posts, i believe this is the account of Jay Scott, who's also working on the Greyhawk stuff announced.
OK, seems to be a Twitch streamer who has a Greyhawk campaign that has been going since before I was born...interesting.

Unclear what he means by "internal WotC" though. Does a part time remote work contracter like Shawn Merwin count as "internal" , if he were involved?

Luke's been on two and a half hours worth of video talking this project having WotC involved. Two hours of the videos also have a half dozen senior leaders with D&D talking about this project being a joint effort.
One of those videos was shared here by the Community Manager of D&D.

And then there's a freelancer saying this isn't true.

So far the names i've read that are working on this include:
  • Luke Gygax
  • Jay Scott
  • Stephen Radney-MacFarland
  • Anna B Meyer
  • Les
  • Norker
  • Andrew
  • Others

Stephen Radney-MacFarland

Because I've been getting a good deal of questions. Melf's Guide (well, this one) is a project headed by Luke Gygax. It involves me, Jay Scott, the intensely talented Anna B Meyer, Les, Norker, Andrew, and others riffing on what we love about the setting Gary made, Luke played, and we all enjoyed.
Other than that, I can't say much. NDAs and decorum. But I think you'll love the finished product.

Yeah, I mean, I would belive it is possible that a lot of the heavy lifting is coming from Gygax and some other external Greyhawk creatives, but the weird hostile post is weird and hostile.

Haven't had a chance to watch the solo Gygax video or the full panel yet, probably won't get a chance to listen until my Monday commute, any particular details to share from those?

I can speak on the subject of Jay Scott (Lord Gosumba) as I have worked with him and have appeared on his twitch channel. Full disclosure, I created the some of the heraldry he uses in his campaign and I helped him interview Len Lakofka before his passing.

Jay's campaign is an AD&D campaign that has been running continuously for 40+ years. The version of AD&D has been organically grown with 1st and 2nd edition TSR products and tons of homebrew over the years. The campaign has taken place in the central Flanaess in the World of Greyhawk from day one.

Now for his claims of being on team Luke Gygax, believe it. In the video from Luke and Dan at the begining of this thread Luke name checks Anna Meyer (Greyhawk mapmaker exstrodinare) and Jay Scott as part of his team.

I will say that for Jay, 5e is not his preferred D&D, but he is deeply involved in the Greyhawk community. One of the programs he hosts on his channel is Greyhawk Legends and Lore with Anna Meyer and Mike Bridges. They also have guests on the program to talk about specific lore subjects.

quick and dirty
Greyhawk will include unique rules to lean into its themes which they think is grittier, tougher
It's more than Melf's Guide, but modules (seems like a season?!)
D&D will partner with other creators to do similar projects that show D&D's ability to tell more than high fantasy (future announcements)
Modules will be printed

There’s still the whole matter of whether he can really speak to the level of involvement that WotC has in the project. I’ll leave aside the weird strident way he posted that on X. I mean, so much for attempting to mend rifts.

Check my update, I linked the exact quote where he says it.
let’s start with the obvious, the only way for Luke to do anything Greyhawk related is either through WotC or by publishing it on DMsGuild. Alternatively it can be Greyhawk ‘inspired’ but all the names will need to be filed off.

I doubt the plan is to go with the latter two options, and neither of them get you onto a panel with WotC, so WotC will be involved in some form. They won’t just publish whatever he creates, no questions asked
