Menace of the Icy Spire (Ozymandias79 judging)

Balth slowly strolls through the ship looking about, now that Larinza is up and about. He slows his breathing and slows the adrenaline from the fight; beginning to feel better. He looks around as he centers himself, seeing if there was anything he had missed previously.

Taking a short rest as I look around. I'll spend three surges to heal 15 points of damage.

Also, looking again, taking ten plus my roll:
Perception (1d20 11=17) = 27. didn't know if you wanted that added in or a normal roll plus ten after.

Was that a Take 10? Take 10 just means that, if you're not in a rush or distracted (definitely not in combat!) and there's no penalty for failure, you can pretend you rolled 10 on a skill check. So taking 10 on your perception would give you 10+11=21, while rolling will give you anywhere from 1+11=12 to 20+11=31. You have to decide before you roll, though.

In this case, 17 and 21 would give you the same result...

Balth pauses to examine the remains of some of the zombies. They're mostly dressed in rough, heavy clothing, the garb of common sailors, but now that he has time to reflect, Balth recalls that the first to accost him was wearing the remains of a fine silk shirt. It must have been the corpse of an officer, maybe even the captain. Unfortunately, he can find no trace of it - it was mostly vapourized in the fight - except for a single well crafted leather boot that was blown several yards from the ship.

As he turns to return to his companions, Balth suddenly notices a glint of gold out of the corner of his eye. In the snow lies a severed hand, still wearing a gaudy gold ring.

[sblock=ooc] Oh, ok, sorry, I wasn't sure how you were working that. I'll remember for next time, thank you![/sblock]

Balth stops in his tracks and mutters, "'Elo, love; what have we got here?" He walks over and picks the hand up, examining the gaudy gold ring as he removes it from the dead hand, putting the hand with the rest of the zombie pieces. He spends a few moments trying to figure out if there is anything special about it.

You guess that the ring is worth about 20 gp. Inscribed on the inside are the words, "Congrats on reaching captain, coz! -- DL"

You recall that the youngest daughter of the L'Irkash family is named Darwinia L'Irkash. She's in the gossip papers a lot more than the rest of her family.

If you make a History roll of 15 (by taking 10 or rolling) you can read the above block. You're on your honour on this. (Yes, I fully expect most people would succumb to temptation, but if you don't make the roll, at least RP as if you didn't read it...)

Shorrin moves to the warlord's side. He pats her solidly on the back, taking care to be firm but not firm enough to reopen her wounds. "Glad to see you up and around. "

The captain's cabin is easy to find, beneath the stairs at the stern of the ship, but contains little of value. The captain kept it spartan, it seems. The ship's log is locked in a desk drawer; fortunately you don't have to deal with the look because the wood has buckled and split around it. Although the final crash isn't recorded, it includes many earlier sightings of ice with dates and estimated positions. It looks like the hazards you encountered in the Kraken's Grasp were much more extensive than those encountered by the Little Celia, just a week ago.

The only note of personality about the captain's quarters is an inscription in the front of the log: "Darling Celia: with this ship's maiden voyage I'll make my fortune and prove my worth for you, fair maiden. So swears your unworthy suitor, Lukas L'Irkash."

Janus will pocket the Journal, so he can return it to the port authority.
Can I make a thorough look for any not so obvious item/places or did you do that for me?

I'd prefer it if you'd post your characters' actions IC as much as possible.

Janus ransacks the cabin thoroughly, but finds nothing else of interest.

Balth holds up the ring, reading the inscription to himself.

"Well, it looks like I found the captain of the ship. So these undead were definitely the crew at one point, it would appear. Poor bastards probably froze to death from whatever is making this mess.

Rest in peace, Captain L'Irkash,
" Balth mutters as he pockets the ring. They'll probably want that when they return; best to take it with them as proof of her cousin's poor fate.

He slings his bow over his shoulder again and quickly pulls out his round gloves, slipping them on.

"Good mage, is there a way you can heat these things up slowly? I'd hate to lose a finger or three to this intolerable cold!" he smiles chattering his teeth as he's rubbing the gloves together to try to restore feeling to his fingers.

He looks around the ship; there does not seem to be any movement other than them.

"Do we press on, or are we going to make camp here?" He glances upwards at the sun, trying to figure out the time.
