Menace of the Icy Spire (Ozymandias79 judging)

"I suppose the path is the way to go but perhaps we should leave the sleds for when we return." Janus says as he investigates the area while waiting for the others to catch up.

"I definatly think the forest is where we need to be going... I'm not so sure about leaving the sleds behind.. something out here is after us."

As the others reach the top, Balth has been surveying the body from afar.

Well, now that everyone is up here, if it is a trap; I might as well be the one to spring it while you all are safely back here, he says in a low murmur.

He attempts to blend in as best he can with his surroundings, stealthily making his way towards the fire, gloves off, bow in hand and arrow drawn.

Moving as close as I can towards the fire, going as slow as I think necessary to maintain stealth. Actively trying to perceive a trap or someone/something in wait for us. If I do perceive something, I will stop and use handsignals to the others. [/sblock]

Balth slowly approaches the fire. There's no sign of movement. The body lays there silent and dead. As he reaches the bonfire he kneels to peer into the pile, but can see nothing concealed inside. The only new detail he can see from here is a small stack of kindling and an overturned bottle of lamp oil (long since evaporated). It looks like this will make a fine ready-built signal fire.

The body is dressed in the remains of a simple, rough seaman's outfit, similar to most of the zombies below, but it is so badly burned that it's hardly recognizable. It's clear that there's nothing of value on the corpse.

Suddenly Balth feels a light touch on his shoulder! He spins around, wondering how anything could have snuck up on him with his senses so extended, to be confronted by... snow. Fat white flakes have begun to drift down from the sky, which is now shrouded in dark clouds.

Although the snow is fluffy and light right now, those dark clouds suggest it will get heavier very quickly.

Janus makes his way closer to the bonfire, keeping a watchful eye on the forest. "I wonder if the snow will get any heavier?" He says, oblivious to the threating clouds closing in. "Well, no use loitering around here, shall we?" Janus adds looking to his companions.

Balth makes his way back, meeting Janus about halfway and nodding, then nods past Janus towards the others.

"This will make for a good signal fire for us should we need to use it. But... he won't tend it very well in our absence."
He motions to the dead man.

"Dressed like the others. We could spend the night here, but the snow will come soon. We would do well to cover as much ground as we can, unless we want to wait it out here and then press further inland."

"This clifftop is too exposed, we would be better off seeking shelter in the trees and what ever killed the salior be the elements of fiends, we may be next." Janus replies to Balth.

"I'm thinkin' we move on, no point in resting here with the dead man. Let's get this over with and get back somewhere warm" Murphy says grumpily.
