[Merged] Hackmaster reviews?

Well, you might notice that the Core books don't say 3rd edition, they say Dungeons and Dragons. Perhaps a minor point, but I think it's an important distinction.
After all, D&D sprang fully formed from the brows of Tweet, Cook and Williams. Silly me. :)

Wow, that was an impressive jump from what I said. :)

All I'm stating is what the books say. If one is unfamiliar with the former editions of D&D and looks at the core books, they have no reason to think it's third edition. That's it, that's the point. Now, make your leaps of whatever if you choose, but we all know this point is not that important. :D

EN World is not a D&D site. It's a D20 site.

I think a lot of the community disagrees with you here... obviously, a few disagree enough to post about it on this thread.

How many times do we see threads about older edition stuff? Conversions? Questions about things older than the last two years?

I think the emphasis is on the dnd, NOT the d20, but that's my perception. Nobody has to share my point of view, but I don't see why some people on the other side of the debate seem to be insisting that everyone share _their_ point of view.

If you don't want to read a review of HM stuff, don't. Isn't it really that simple? Heck, I haven't read a single review here, EVER, but if I decided to look into HM more seriously it would be nice to have a resource written by members of a community whose opinions I respect to check out.

As usual, no disrespect intended to anyone, and I do understand your point about diluting the site's focus. I just don't think that ANYTHING dnd will dilute this site's focus, only enhance it. Does anyone really play 3e dnd with no references at all to earlier editions? Doesn't everyone convert old spells, monsters, etc. that aren't in the books? Doesn't everyone refer to older references for more details on [fill in part of campaign world here] if they run [fill in name of published setting here]?

I dunno, it just seems like a silly thing to be up in arms about to me.

And if one is familiar with the existence of earlier editions of the game, one might get confused, and assume that it caters for all editions. About as likely to be confused as a d20-ite might be by reviews of non-d20 D&D materials? The scale of your storm in a teacup indeed matches mine in terms of fury and tempestuousness! :D

Pretty much, yes. :D

if it makes anyone feel better, kenzer sent me some HM swag awhile back that i have to review now that i can and the review probably will not be all that great. and i will put a disclaimer in caps lock at the top that the product is not d20 or D&D. i'm just doing it because they sent it to me for free and i said i would. they even shipped it to canada for little old me. while the game might be derivative of d&d, so is every other roleplaying game in existence and if you do not believe that you do not have a clear understanding of why this hobby exists at all. would you accept rifts of harn reviews on this site? how is it different? this is first and foremost a d20 site, look at the title page and see how much is evoted to d&d, and how much is devoted to d20 and come back here and tell me it's not.

Just another opinion from the community here...

This site is about DUNGEONS & DRAGONS. A grand form of entertainment we all enjoy.

Thanks to third edition, OGL, and D20 rules, we all get to enjoy other types of games that we can swing into for a single session with ease thanks to our not having to learn new mechanics. It is nice that this site allows people to discuss other types of D20 games here, since this is such a great community we have built around our love of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS.

I do, however welcome Spycraft, Cthulu, D20 Modern, etc. reviews in our little world (if you feel the need to include them), as this suits our favorite site's friendly nature, and means memebers of the community can keep each other informed.

Thanks, just how I see it. feel free to think wron*cough* differently.;)

Why does it matter again if a non-d20 product is reviewed?

IMHO, it's a signal/noise ratio problem. I use the review for d20, if a non-d20 product appear in the top 20, I miss the 21th product which might have interested me.

Sounds a little bit like you have already decided that you dislike the very thought of having HM stuff reviewed here and will give it a poor review because of that outlook. I hope I am wrong here, as I tend to rely on the great reviews here for buying decisions, and I would hate to see this kind of bias creep into the reviews (and no, it does not make me feel better)

Let me think again... what was the progenitor of this site? Eric Noah's ... what was it?... THIRD EDITION NEWS.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong... iirc this site existed before Eric quit hosting his 3E news site.
