I have a friend who pronounces Gencon as "ghen con" as in ghengis khan, not Gen as in generation (or geneva). It's a bit like fingernails on a chalkboard to me so I can see where Ennnworld would be similar.
Actually, I've always pronounced it Ghen-con :uhoh::uhoh:

Back in the days of dialup BBS' the "system operator" was abreviated as sysop. It used to really drive me nuts when people called that the "psi-sop" instead of "sis-op". As someone else said fingernails on the chalkboard.

It took me months after first hearing of this site to actually find it, because I thought my friends and gaming buds were referring to a place called "Ian's World". It was some time before I cleared up that confusion, the whole time wondering why I couldn't find it in any web search.

So yeah, I pronounce it EE NN World, and so does everyone I know.
My experience was in reverse, I kept hearing about "N World", but could never find this place. Only when I saw an ENnie award winner with a link here did I get here. EE NN World for me too.

But it's initials. E.N. You cannot just mix those together into a single conglomerate.
Pshaw. Of course you can. There are entire words formed that way that most people forget were once acronyms, after all. Scuba. Laser.

You can totally pronounce out an acronym as if it were a word. In fact, it's an extremely common practice. Which is part of the reason why I prefer saying Enworld exactly as it's written; not E.N. World.

Which is not how it's written, I might add.

IMHO: merging "EN" into "Ian" is acceptable, while merging "EN" into the first syllable of en guard is unacceptable*.

Cheers, -- N

*) Because that would sound French.

Does that make the E-N defenders "en guards"?

I'll leave now........ :)
