Meta-game reason to NOT get spellcasting prodigy?

Oh, cry me a friggin' river.

I don't see fighter-types getting a "Combat Prodigy" feat that grants them +1 BAB and +2 to hit, or something atrociously overpowered and ridiculous NOT to get like that.

Sure you do. They are called Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization and Greater Weapon Specialization. :-) Seems to me those are must-haves for the fighters.

Good luck with 4 hp and nary a magic armor or shield spell! In most of the games I've played in, thats a recipe for disaster.

Weapon Specialization doesn't give you it's bonus with all weapons, just the one you choose it for. It's more like the fighter version of spell focus....

In practice, that scarcely matters. Fighters generally use the same weapon over and over again.

oh, jesus.
please save me from debating something as obvious as this.

It's good that the flames have died down... Let's keep them that way.

So it's really just a +1 to spell DCs, and a bonus spell -if- it makes your stat hit one of the break points for bonus spells. Which it always will at some spell level if at least 12, but may not all spell levels.
For completeness' sake, I'd like to point out that at higher ability scores, it can give you more than one bonus spell.

Specifically, it gives you more than one bonus spell if your spellcasting stat is 18+ before adding Spellcasting Prodigy.

For example...
18: 1/1/1/1
20: 2/1/1/1/1 (i.e., one 1st- and one 5th-level spell more than what 18 gave you)

I see no problem with Spellcasting Prodigy whatsoever. It gives you the equivalent of a +1 bonus on one attribute for the purposes of one spellcasting class only.

Instead of merely assuming that it is obvious to everybody, thus effectively ending the discussion, state your arguments. Give some feedback. Let others have something to work with.

I would also state that it is obvious that warrior-types (barbarians, fighters, paladins) win almost every fight. And not just 'cause they're "combat-oriented"... But if that was relevant, ;) I'd include some arguments.

I certainly hope they don't change Spellcasting Prodigy. I would rather they just add a "per DM's approval" note to the feat. It is obviously a story feat meant to simiulate a person being a magic user of some note even amongst other intelligent magic users. Even Elminster doesn't have spellcasting prodigy, which should be a good guide to how rare the feat should be.
