Mighty Bows greater than +4

Well, I don't have DR, thick scales, or am a towering magical reptile, either. :)

If it was a trained mount, I think it would've been prepared for it ( I mean, heck, cats can twist to land on their feet and they don't have high Ints).

Though, as I said; 1e. If it was high enough to take damage from the fall, then I could see that.

Hey, I'm not trying to pick your character's past apart with a magnifying glass and critisize the DM; as before mentioned, some cases just make me itch. Call it Jaded.

Oh man, I SO miss the "1/2 hps must land, 1/4 hps crash and burn" rules from 1e/2e!

You know I never knew they got rid of that in 3e.

But I'll still use those rules. Of course in my game fireballs still expanding to a full 33000 cubic feet and lightning bolts rebound.

Well don't worry, no real dragons were harmed in the playing of that session. Its interesting that you were put off by the fact that a "towering magical reptile" didn't behave like a common housecat.

I think you're just jealous that my guy did it. You dismiss it as being "1E", but under the current rules he can kill a White Dragon in ONE SHOT. How do you like them apples! Huh? Who's your daddy? MuuahahahahAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!11!!

Jealous? Pshaw. If I'm fighting a Dragon, I want to be able to *urinate* on myself I'm so afraid of it. Not 'Watch me kill it with both eyes closed!'

I agree.

Kudos to you for the good shot! But on the other hand, it feels more like a dragon than a giant eagle if it did something. Showed how it lived to it's age or something. Featherfall'd itself, rolled with the impact-disloding it's rider, anything besides just dying upon impact. Any big dumb flying animal coulda done that.

Just doesn't feel draconic. :)

SINCE WE ARE REMEMBERING THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF 1ST ED.

Do you remember when the Best of Dragon Annual #3 came out.

That is where I found the Archer and the Archer-Ranger.
My very first ever Archer that just kicked @#$ !!!!

I had 18/00 Str and a magical bow of speed and distance.
It was intelligent and called itself Horizon. It was very arrogant and bragged alot about once being used by the Elven God of Hunting & Archery's Avatar.

At point-blank ranges it would do Double Damage (only non-magical damage bonuses were doubled) so my +6Str, and the Archers bonus damage really kicked butt. I remember still the look on the DMs face when I first announced okay on my first shot I did (at pointblank) 2d8 for the arrow,+12 from strength,+8 from magic arrows&bow, and at least another +20 from the Archer class bonus damage.

This is a class that I know nobody would do it Justice to convert to 3rd edition. I doubt that anyone could make it balanced.

That's fine. If we were to play the movie "Aliens," you'd obviously be Hudson. I'm Hicks.

It did do something. It looked cool. Heck, I was even a bit nervous. Then I won initiative. :D

Just opened up the ol' 1E MM. Adult dragons are 51-100 years old. Its not like it spent decades perfecting its "Crap! No wings!" maneuver...this was the first and only time that happened to Old Whitey.

Featherfall'd itself,

Only 5% of white dragons could cast 1st level spells. This wasn't one of them.

The DM nearly crapped himself when he saw how much damage I did in the opening round (remember, aside from a high rate of attacks from Specialization, 1E also let you get a free first shot if your bow was nocked at the start of combat) and knew there was nothing that could be done to save the beast at that point. Its breath weapon was useless, because 1E dragons only do their HP in dmg, and it barely had any left.

Neither you nor Xarlen liked how the DM described the dragon collapsing into the ice, but what you don't seem to be taking into consideration is the fact that the dragon was going to die the next round. Period.

Anything the dragon did (no matter how cool or "draconic") to prolong its life another round just meant that it got to watch me casually nock another arrow and finish it off. The DM gave it some dignity, it was killed by a fluke tumble of a mighty Frost Giant king, rather than being put down like a lame horse.
