mindless eating at games

I find that if there is a ton of food, I'll just dig in and eat, barely stopping to consider what's goin' in my gut.

If I'm DMing, though ... I'm so busy I don't have time to eat. I'm usually starving after the guys leave!

So how 'bout you .... is gaming and food a deadly mix? Do your groups have certain rules about not bringing certain foods that are sure to weaken a particular player's resolve? (I play with a guy who always brings Sun Chips, much to our DM's dismay -- because he has a particular weakness for them). Do you have food rituals?

I started bringing veggie trays to games because I was eating too much junk food.

We got to the point where everyone chipped in, usually -- a little XP bonus for contributing to the group's fun is a great incentive.

I used to be really bad about munching through a 1 pound bag of M&Ms during a game session while I was DMing, or a bag of those Hershey's Minis, or something else chocolate and entirely very bad for me.

Thankfully, I've broken that habit. Now, I have a chip or two and two or three Diet Cokes. Can't lose the caffeine. ;)

Let's see... I'm around 300, one of the guys I game with is probably somewhere in the 500-700 range (he's hueg liek xbox), and at least four others are around my size... Only one actual skinny guy in our midst.

Generally people order out... Usually from a pizza place nearby, getting things like steak subs, mozzerella sticks, jalapeno poppers, et. al.

I rag on people all the time for cancelling for stupid reasons like having to sleep or family... I can't wait til I have my first heart attack, so I can play through the pain and go to the hospital afterwards, languidly mouthing, "i told u i was hardcore" the entire time...

Ah, dreams.

Our group has commented that we should get Diet Dr Pepper to sponsor us. We go through at least 2 cases in one gathering. Munchies of all sorts are always around, and usually one or more non-playing wives are in attendance, so freshly baked cookies or other treats are usually on the table. Then again, at any given time, 1d3 of us are low-carb dieting, so you can replace the cookies and sweets with pepperoni sticks, beef jerky and cheese slices.

And as the DM, I'm doubly screwed, as I'm always too busy behind to screen to snack, and even if I weren't, our table is 8' long, so I couldn't reach any of them anyway. :(

DMs are allowed to eat at the game?

You gotta be fast at our table. Our players gobble stuff up in a matter of seconds. If I'm lucky, I'll get maybe 1 slice of pizza or 1 mini taco. Since I DM, my mind isn't listening to my stomach and I don't pay much attention when food hits the table. When I realize there's food, it's too late.

It's gotten to the point that my wife will make me my own plate and just stick it in front of me and tell me, "Here...eat this."

Since I do most of the talking and my mouth gets dry, I tend to down way more beers than anyone else. For some reason I can pause for enough time to grab a drink, but not for food

The annoying thing is that everyone brings diet drinks to the game but I hate the taste of diet drinks. They'll eat pizza and any other insanely fattening foods...but they only drink diet drinks :]

I do the same thing. Our groups food rituals seem to consist of:

Everyone bring too much.
Open everything and eat at least half of it - healthy or not.
Gnosh constantly late into the night.
