mindless eating at games

LOL. :D

Often when we play, we play mega all-weekend sessions. During those, food is off-limits at the table (drink, obviously, is not), forcing us to stop at regular intervals and have something decent to eat. By which I mean, get a takeaway.

A sandwich.

Oh, and in case there was any doubt, a "nuke 'em" burger is one meant to be reheated in the microwave.

Ah, thanks for clarifying the burger too... I figured it was just slang for a big, greasy, nasty burger.

Just FYI:

Number of years left in college + 2 = number of years until you get fat from pizza and beer.
Hah.

I found that I lost tons of weight pretty much as soon as I left college. I don't eat as much pizza, but I basically started living on burritos.

We really need to start an EN World Weight Loss Support Club thread in Off Topic. We did something similar with quitting smoking awhile back, and a few EN Worlders were able to quit for good, which is a great thing.

Good idea; there was something like this at Circvs Maximvs but it was part of the "groups" feature over there that never really did work quite right. I did enjoy the support.

My own situation is certainly that my eating habits at games have little to nothing to do with my current weight/fitness -- it's my eating and exercise habits all the rest of the days of my life that have a cumulative effect.

In the group I get to game with when I go home, we rarely snack. We usually go out to eat at a fast food place. But during the game itself there is virtually no snacking, we found it distracts too much from the game. Drinks are fine though.

I find that if there is a ton of food, I'll just dig in and eat, barely stopping to consider what's goin' in my gut. If I'm DMing, though ... I'm so busy I don't have time to eat. I'm usually starving after the guys leave! So how 'bout you .... is gaming and food a deadly mix?

Wow. it's so funny you started this, I just realized it myself last week. I'm the guy who answeres "I DM 99% of the time" in polls and surveys, and lo and behold for 4 weks in 2007 I'm actually playing D&D rather than running it and I think I gained 5 pounds. As a DM I need to be reminded by my wife to eat. As a player I find myself reaching, stuffing, reaching, stuffing. All sorts of stuff. My group is very generous with their food sharing, and one fellow (the one now DMing) works in a special coffee house/luncheonette.

I need to get back to DMing to loose weight. :heh:

We usually just snack on chips and soda. Every now and then, though, we do a big weekend. For example, I missed a friend's birthday, so I'm sponsoring food for gaming tomorrow. I work at the pizza joint he used to frequent, and his creation was nicknamed The Beast. BBQ sauce, kraut, and a lot of different stuff. I offered him my creation...nicknamed the Coronary Deluxe. Every meat we offered that wasn't fish. Totals out to 9 different meats, in very unhealthy amounts. Pre-bake, the thing weighs about 8-10 pounds, if I remember right.

That should keep my group satisfied for about an hour or so.

We usually eat separate meals before we start gaming while we chat and stuff. As a DM, I don't usually take time to eat a meal, but I'll snack through the night and drink tea to keep my voice comfortable.

We keep a fridge stocked with a variety of (mostly unhealthy) drinks, but we usually eat fruit, veggies, and various breads for snacks.

Some sessions we eat rather healthy foods: meats, cheeses, crackers, fruit. Other sessions are more along the lines of M&Ms, chocolate chip cookies or brownies, and popcorn. One constant, though, is the Mello Yello: it's the best DM appeasement drink ever (at least for this particular DM).

To paraphrase from Pulp Fiction, "English, good sir, do you speak it?" :) I know that crisps are chips and I can sort of guess what a nuke 'em burger is... but what the heck is a sarnie?

Technically chips are chips, normally served with deep fried fish or pie, and crisps are crisps :p

Sarnie = sandwich in a hurry

Actually the last few sessions (excluding the chocolate cake for the Centaurs Birthday) have been healthier - we've moved on to rice cakes as nibbles

USA & UK, two nations separated by a common language :D
