MINIS! Where do you buy yours?

Shameless plug...

I have a boatload of GW's Lord of the Rings minis here at the Ebay store:

http://stores.ebay.com/Blue-Star-Games

The best deal is the 50% off Fellowship of the Ring starter set. You get 48 plastic miniatures: 8 Men of Gondor, 16 Elves & 24 Moria Goblins for $20 plus shipping:

Of course these aren't assembled or painted, but they are cheap.

I also have D&D minis in the Ebay store.

Thanks,
Rich

Amazon. They're a little bit cheaper than retail, and shipping is free when the order is more than $25. I spend my tip change on them. Y'see, coinstar charges a fee to count coins if you return them for cash, but NOT if you get amazon gift cards. I roll my silver change, but when I've amassed enough pennies, they and whatever other change I have on hand goes into the counting machine. I get to buy books and minis without feeling bad about it.

RGard: Are the LotR plastic figures the same size as your standard DnD battlemap minis? I'm looking to purchase a bunch of mooks, and I'll happily send my money your way if the LotR minis in that set are the same size as pewter minis. 8 humans, 16 elves, and 24 goblins would take care of a LOT of disposable encounter fodder IF they're the right size.

Monkey Dragon: I never knew Coinstar could be used for Amazon cards! What a great idea!

JustKim: Thanks for the sites!

Hi Satori,

The LotR minis are 25mm. Some of the D&D minis are 25mm, but others are 28mm. It's a decent enough match. I think the goblins are about the same size. The elves look good next to D&D elves, especially the harbinger elves. The humans may be about half a head short next to some of the D&D humans.

I'll see if i can find some to compare from open boxes and post a pic.

EDIT: All the bases are 25mm or 1", the same size as the D&D medium size base. So your goblins would be on full medium bases as opposed to slightly smaller D&D small bases. The humans' and elves' bases are right on.

Thanks,
Rich

Miniature Market has some of the best prices on cases, bulk discounts on multiple cases (buying two cases will get you a full set or close to it), and lower than Ebay prices on singles. Shipping on any order over $75 is free and they ship fast. You will have your package in 2-3 days, unlike some places who will take your $12 for priority mail, wait 10 days to even ship them out, then send them via UPS. I won't name names, but.. Paizo. It's Paizo. Paizo also charges 2-3 times market price for singles and the singles "may or may not" be bagged or carded. Who knows? Paizo is pretty much your worst choice for miniatures.

Another good place to get singles is Noble Knight Games. Their prices are comparable with Miniature Market, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. However, the important thing is that figures from the older sets are getting pretty hard to find and what you can't find at Miniature Market, you may find at Noble Knight. Noble Knight also ships quickly, but they don't offer free shipping.

The cheapest place to get cases in my experience has been Game Outfitter. They beat Miniature Market by a few dollars, but they do not sell singles. I can't recall how quickly they shipped, because most of my orders have been with Miniature Market.. I like to pick up other things while I'm getting my cases.

I wouldn't recommend Game Outfitters. They only responded to 2 of the 7 or 8 e-mails that I sent them. That was enough to put me off them. I have also read of other people who pre-ordered cases from them and only got their cases a couple of weeks after the new set had been released.

Miniature Market, on the other hand, I can't recommend enough. Steven from Miniature Market has always been quick to answer e-mails, follow things up for me, etc., Great prices and great service. I would definitely deal with them again.

Noble Knight Games is also fantastic. Aaron from Noble Knight Games is always quick to answer e-mails and follow up any questions that I have. Their prices on minis aren't quite as good as Miniature Market but they do have a huge range of new and out-of-print RPG products. Their prices on RPG stuff is also very competitive. I have ordered from them many times before and will do so many more times in the future.

I would also like to point out that while Game Outfitters is cheaper than Miniature Market (by a couple of dollars per case), Game Outfitters charge for shipping. Miniature Market offers free shipping on all orders over $75. So if you are ordering a case or more of minis it will work out cheaper from Miniature Market once shipping costs are factored in.

Edit: I would also like to add that while I think Paizo is a great company, their store has some of the highest prices for D&D minis out there. Lisa from Paizo has explained how she decides on pricing for their minis on a couple of occasions and I understand her reasoning. Still, if you want the best value for your mini dollar, Paizo is not the place to shop for D&D minis.
