Minorities & D&D/RPGs

That is totally untrue in the USA. If you don't believe me, look up the word racist in a dictionary. It's impossible for an African American, American Indian, Latino, or Asian to be racist (in the USA).

Well, dictionaries are run by liberal white guys, so... ;)

On that note ...

You are reading the writing of a bonafide piccolo.

It happened a long time ago. I was heading down a busy sidewalk and feeling kinda ticked. At the time the neighborhood was black (today it's hispanic) and young men were wont to watch life go by on the corner or anywhere else they could gather. As I passed a couple of men with a small boy the child got my attention by shouting, "How's it going, piccolo?" at me.

That set me off.

But before it went too far one young man got me aside and assured me that the youngin' really meant no harm by it, he was simply used to calling everybody "piccolo". Meantime his buddy was busy explaining to the boy that you don't call white people "piccolo", it's an insult.

A bit later I saw the humor in it. Nowadays I figure that if a 6 year-old African-American boy says you are a piccolo, then you are a piccolo. And be damn proud of it. :D

Remember, aint no piccolo gonna call this piccolo a piccolo 'cept some piccolo. Got that, piccolo? :D

"Piccolo?"

LOL!

I get it...but I have never heard THAT one before! (scribbles furiously in Handbook of Racial Epithets...)

What part of the country is it from?

Well, I'm from Central America, Costa Rica little country next to Panama. Many people here loves rpg's, a lot of stores sell the books, miniatures, etc, there are conventions, etc.
A lot of people I know play d&d, actually I'm playing in a campaign right now with my boyfriend and some friends of ours.
My country is small but there is a majority that likes this kind of stuff.

I think the anti-rpg thing is primarily an American phenomenon, probably due to our long history of conservative protestantism being so popular here.

I bet other countries with strong conservative religious currents in their societies have a similar attitude, though.

I made it up. The original word is not allowed at ENWorld. A word that's sort of like the acronym for "Naturally Intelligent Gents Generating Excellent Reviews", but not quite. The coinage was inspired by a local morning show use of "flugelhorn" in place of the proper name for one's Wee Willy Winky.

With the exception of one Mexican, all of my gaming buddies have been white. I have gamed with gay/lesbian people before; does that count? :p

My current group consists of the following:

1 black guy
1 white guy
1 Russian Guy(he has an afro so i am not sure how we can quantify him)
1 Indian Guy (me)
1White girl from Japan
1 Asian Guy
1 Puerto Rican
1 yet to be determined girl
