If you make them creatures, they would no longer be figments and wouldn't be able to follow the spell's description.

Creatures encountering an illusion usually do not receive saving throws to recognize it as illusory until they study it carefully or interact with it in some fashion.

Actually, yes it does, if the group in question is okay with it.

Exactly. Does that mean a saving throw after 1 round of combat/observation?
