D&D (2024) Missing background ability score combination speculation

My 4 combinations are:

Int, wis, cha.
Str, dex, int.
Str, dex, wis.
Str, dex, cha.

Noone needs str and dex and a mental stat.
And noone needs all 3 mental stats. And if the sage did not get it, who should?
Yeah, that seems pretty likely.

Of course, there have been examples in previous editions where some of these would be useful--certain Primal characters, or Artful Dodger Rogues who wanted to dabble in Brutal Scoundrel powers or some other things. But yeah overall these seem like the likely missing combinations, assuming the 16 are all distinct. (I personally think that's unlikely too.)

Yes. Wrong. At least for people that want to hit things in melee.

Maybe if you only look at the average, maybe yes, more classes need dex than str. Although I bet in 2024 many optimized damage builds favour str.
do you even play dnd? Dex doesn't matter for people who want to hit things in melee? Are you just a bad ai bot?

You either need Dex or Strength. Depending on how you look at it, focusing on Dex allows you to dump strength because it gives you hit, damage, and AC. Or, focusing on strength allows you to dump Dex because strength gives you hit, damage, and lets you equip better armor so you don’t need dex for AC. A lot of people tend to favor the former angle because it also boosts your initiative, Dex saves are much more common than Strength saves, and heavy armor is expensive. However, you can get higher AC with heavy armor alone than you can get with light armor and Dex, and finesse weapons cap out at a smaller damage die than pure strength weapons do. So, if you value an extra point of AC and an extra 1-2 average damage per attack more than you value initiative and Dex save bonus, the statement that strength is the most important stat if you want to hit things in melee isn’t completely outlandish.

Rangers, clerics, druids wouldn't mind starting 16 dex, 16 con, 16 wis.

That's the big 3 saves.

Int is only used by 1 class, so yea I expect it will be one of the main ones out.
Nah, Int-Str-Cha turned oit to be Novle, it is in.

I derped by only considering the Proficient Saves, but that makes no sense.

It might just be all four combinations that include Dex and Strength that are out. Str, Dex, Con would be good for barbarians, but not really anyone else, and what background would it fit with? Outlander, I guess?
