Mithril Barding.

Lord Pendragon

First Post
Say you wanted to craft Mithril Breastplate Barding for your mount.

A breastplate is ordinarily 200gp, and is medium armor.
The mithril cost modifier for medium armor is +4000gp.
The cost modifier for armor for a large non-humanoid creature is x4.

So would the barding cost:

A. (200gp x 4) +4000gp = 4,800gp.
B. (200gp + 4000gp) x 4 = 16,800gp
C. Neither, you have to add in the masterwork cost separately, as well.

Since the additional price for mithril armor is for materials and the x 4 multiplier for barding is also for materials, I woud say B. 16,800 gp for the mithril barding. You don't need to add any additional cost for masterwork armor because I believe it is already inherent in the upcharge for the mithril.

A : Nope.
B : Close
C : Masterwork price always included in mithral armor.

My option : mithral cost is mostly a factor of weight based on the rarity of the material.

So I'd say (200 gp x 4) + (4,000 gp x 2) = 8,800 gp.
x 4 being cost multiplier for non-humanoid large creature
x 2 being weight multiplier for non-humanoid large creature

Hope this helps

The x4 is not purely for materials, because you're not multiplying just the material cost, you're multiplying the end cost, which is half labor.

I like antoine's calculation... it makes a lot of sense.

And yes, masterwork just falls out of the money you pay for mithril.
