[Modern]Throwing around an idea for a PBP campaign; Recruiting one or two more

First Post
I was gearing up to run a slightly altered version of d20 Modern for my tabletop, but I think I am going to run with a 7th Sea for the time being instead. I still have these ideas sitting in my head though and am interested in working with them. Here's the basic premise below. If I seem to garner any interest in the game, I'll post more about how I intend to alter the system and more on character creation. If I decide to run the game, I'll very likely run it off of my personal website, which grants me quite a bit more control over functionality of the game.

The game would start in near future/modern day Earth. Characters in the game would be part of a special forces unit, some sort of black bag operation, kind of like Delta Force, which gives a little bit more freedom to character development in terms of which service you are in, or allowing for paramilitary intelligence-type characters.

The group would be part of a covert organization, formed to stomp out terrorists. The game would likely begin in Iraq or Afghanistan, but will move on to other areas of the world as the game progresses and we divurge from current affairs a bit.

Due to the nature of the characters, I would probably start them out around 5th or 6th level, and maybe throw in some free feats to represent spec ops training. The main area of the game I would alter would be damage/hitpoints. While I want the game to remain a bit cinematic in scope, I want bullets to have the potential to kill you. I also don't want characters dying every session. I think I've come up with a pretty easy solution and it would be pretty seamless for the players.

I intend to have the game be a bit more investigative, rather than straight hack n slash, though there will definately be some hairy combat.

Sound interesting to anyone?

Two possible players is a good start. After doing some thinking, I feel it is only fair to warn you that I intend to incorporate some good govt mythos conspiracy ala Delta Green. When doing the tabletop game, I wasn't going to inform my players of this, but since I am recruiting people I do not know, I decided it was best to put it right out there. Characters will likely start with no supernatural experiences. FX are also out, but options may enter later in the game.

The feel I am going for in the game will be some strage amalgamation of Dick Marcinko-esque Spec Ops (Rogue Warrior series) and Lovecraftian goodness.

If that's what you intend to have it like you can definitely count me in. :D

What I've got in mind in a Russian ex-Spetznaz commando, probably strong 3/ soldier x, if you're using d20 modern.

Fiesty, I'm glad to hear you are interested. I was intending on limiting the services involved to US only. This isn't because I don't think the other services aren't worthy, its that with the classification of the organization I am thinking of, the US wouldn't allow foreign troops into the group. I might make an exception for a Brit, Aussie or Canadian, but even then I'd be hesitant....and this is all before the mythos gets involved. I won't be using Delta Green cannon, but some of hte DG info definately throws the balance of which countries we are allied with.

That certainly does sound like a cool modern-style background... :D

I'd be interested to play some female espionage/sniper-type character (maybe ex-sniper/scout and afterwards member of a federal agency (CIA/NSA or whatever is appropriate) or some similar military organisation, doing espionage work (infiltration, surveillance, information gathering, even assassinations (making use of her former training), stuff like that), before being signed up to the counter terrorist squad now).

Would that work? :)

Bye

BTW, wouldn't it make sense to set the level slightly higher (i.e. 8th or 10th)?

I just see special forces as very experienced and highly trained people.
That way there is also more room to rank in regular soldiers, civilians, etc without having everything too close together.

Just a thought! :)
