(Mongoose) Licences and RPGs

Well, given that Mongoose have been going for a lot of UK based licenses such as Dredd, Slaine & Lone Wolf (not surprising for a UK company), maybe we should be looking at UK-based properties.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were a game based on the writings of Gemmell (sp?) or Moorcock. Waylander d20, maybe.

Personally though, if we were going for wish list RPG, I'd be hoping for The Culture d20, based on Iain M Banks' exceptional SF books :)

Hi guys,

Well, membership of our mailing list has rocketed over the past couple of days. I wonder why? :)

Psion: I mentioned elsewhere (trying to keep track of several forums now!) that, as with Dredd and the game-that-still-cannot-be-mentioned, we will be visting all sorts of fan sites for both Conan and Lone Wolf, polling ideas, asking opinions, dispensing with playtest material and making offers to certain individuals to write for us.

Gez: Fafhrd & Grey Mouser may be good, but better than Conan? Maybe not :) I can say the game-that-still-cannot-be-mentioned is sci-fi, and there is a huge teaser coming up in an advert in Dragon very soon. . .

Digitaldark: He-Man was actually suggested on another forum. I don't think I could bring myself to do it :)

Capellan: For once, it ain't UK based :)

Hmmmm,

Sci-Fi and British? Major License? Bend the rules to fit the Genre?

Red Dwarf!

either that or Dr. Who

Ooops, didn't read the last line of the previous post!

Forget what I said.

Babylon-5

either that or Dune!

Conan isn't UK based it just has a large following there from what I've heard.

Me, I have a hard time imagining anything that could be better than Conan, but I'm also very biased. :D

(Didn't mean to imply that the Quintessetial Barbarian and Conan would be related- just fishing for a eta on its release- which worked I might add)

Sweet! It took me awhile to remember what the heck Lone Wolf was (man I haven't looked at those books in a long long time...I feel old...) but that's terrific news! Conan, Lone Wolf, heck all I need now is Cal 'checks over his back to see if Mad Dog Michigan is nearby' Pheonix, Freeway Warrior! That wouldn't be the other project, would it? Or is that gonna be something like Star Gate or Andromeda? :P

Whatever the licence is, it's something Mongoose feel needs 3D artists, so it's probably something that heavily features vehicles.

I'm gonna throw a buck on the X-files d20 :)

Barring that...with the legions of Farscape fans hanging out here...those guys might have just pestered Mongoose into putting stuff out for them...who knows...

Seriously, I think the one that can't be mentioned is Babylon 5. Here's my reasoning:

1. Someone definitely HAS snatched up the license to do a B5 RPG. Because of the nature of Warner Brother's licenses, a signifficant amount of money had to be invested in order to acquire the license. There are few RPG companies that can front that kind of cash, but I would be willing to bet that Mongoose has enough to do it. Others would be WotC (unlikely), White Wolf, and possibly AEG.

2. Babylon 5 has a huge following in the UK.

3. On a separate thread about Babylon 5, Matt took the time to comment. When asked if Mongoose had the license or if they could comment on it, Matt simply answered "No." Is it no, they don't, or no the can't comment? There was no further explanation, but usually when a publisher does not have a license, or is not doing a product of a particular type, they usually make it known in no uncertain terms when asked.

4. Quote by Rhomus: "Whatever the licence is, it's something Mongoose feel needs 3D artists, so it's probably something that heavily features vehicles." - Babylon 5 fits that bill precisely.

I'm about 85% certain that it's Babylon 5. I would be willing to put money on it. Any takers?

new secret game?

Another question to ask is, will it be for D&D, or will it be for d20Modern???? Can you guys at Mongoose answer this question for us? Please............................

Will it be sci-fi based, or will it be fantasy based??

Is it based on a tv show, or will it be completely original??? Or a movie???

If its B5, then I won't buy it. If its Stargate sg-1, then I will buy it. If its Warhammer fantasy converted over to d20, then I will buy it if its faithful to the profession system in the warhammer game. If its Harry Potter, I might buy it (but this one I don't think it is). If its James Bond, I will be shocked but very excited, and I would buy it.

I'll put two $$'s that its James Bond or something like it.
