Monk Healer PrC: Help wanted!!!!

Steven McRownt

First Post
The monk in my group was thinking of building a prestige class with monk redirecting their Ki to heal others. I am a bit confused, and he doen't have any knowledge on the system rules, so i am asking here help.

I was considering to grant him lay on hands (once or twice per day) and cure disease, but no spells, or just the healing domain ones. To balance the class what should i give up?

diamond body
abundant step
diamond soul
quivering palm
timeless body
empty doby
perfect self

I would keep ki strikes, Tongue of the sun and the moon*.

The idea si really to give the chance to this PrC to channel out the Ki to heal people, but still having his "monk attitude".

Hope that this firsts thoughts could help you helping me!!!!!

*apart from italians who knows why this ability is called that way? Is HE famous even there in USA?

If you're talking about Jovanotti's Soleluna, I know he was known in the US since I saw him once on MTV US...

As for the healing monk, I don't really see the point. Why doesn't he multiclass in a cleric if he wants to heal? Alternatively, you could design a prestige class where he doesn't gain monk abilities but keep on improving his Unarmed BAB... This way, he could decide how much healing matters to him compared to the other abilities you listed... IMO that's a bit unbalancing since Monk are already quite good and since healing, being restricted to only some class (otherwise, why wouldn't wizards or sorcerers be able to cast healing spells), is a balancing issue, I wouldn't mix the two without making him choose...

First of all Tongue of the sun and of the moon refers to Saint Francis from Gubbio, the humble priest touched by the holy spirit.

Anyway... continuing with Bab only and then some healing abilities? I will try it with CCE and i'll se what will happen.

Anyway quitting this list of abilities should grant him something good, at leat at first glance...

Dunno, i am here to ask help, because i am in complete darkness on this field!

Everyone's got his own reference! :D Now I look stupid. Anyway, it's not the first time, so...

As far as the monk is concerned, why wouldn't the multiclass be the right option? I think it would be easier to do it that way than to try to create something new... I'm not really a fan of PrC designed to suit a player's choice, that's why I'm trying to find a way around this...

Multi him to this:

Now, that I'm done plugging my own stuff, I'd go ahead and build a prestige class. Not one to fit his character but one that does do what he wants, but not exaclty how he wants it.

The Healing Hands (sure, the name is no good, but best on short notice)

Many people know of the dedication of the Monks to their own body and to the art of unarmed combat. However, few realize that many Monks believe that to help balance out their own actions, they need to heal others.

Prerequiste:
Heal: 5 Ranks
Skill focus Heal
UBAB: +4
Purity of Body Class feature

HD: d6
Attack: as cleric
Saving Throws: As Monk
Skill Points: 4 per level
Class SkillsConcentration, Diplomancy, Heal, Listen, Knowledge Arcana, knowledge herbalism, Swi, Tumble

The character still trains in unarmed fighting as well as healing. His levels here stack with his Monk levels for unarmed attacks, damage, AC Bonus, and unarmed speed.

Level 1: Lay of hands as Paladin
Level 2: Remove disease 1/week
Level 4: Lay of hands twice a day
Level 6: Remove Disease 2/week
Level 7: Lay oh Hands 3/day
Level 10: Remove Disease 3/week, Lay of hands 4/day

Very basic, needs a lot of work. But the idea is there.:D

Bare-footed monk

While i was not connected i wrote down this PrC: the panic faded and i could concentrate better on the idea. I don't know if it is overpowered (there's a strong limit in their code of conduct).

Special: refuse to use violence whenever is possible: in game terms this means using attacks dealing subdual damage and stunning fist; of course if the monk is aware of an immunity of a "monster", and it is impossible to "let him reason" on defeat (trippin' or grapplin' him) he will use his normal abilities to knock him down...

Prereq:
Bab +5; Extra stunning attacks feat (S&F); Heal 6 Ranks; Knowledge (religion) 6 Ranks; Diplomacy 4 Ranks

Skill point per level 2+Int

Class skill: Concentration, Knowledge (religion), Diplomacy, Healing, Profession (herbalist)

HD: d6

Saves: Good Fort and Will

Bab advancement, Armor bonus as monk. At 4th and 6th level ki strike advancement (stacks with monk's ki strike)

Specials
1st level: combat casting feat
3rd level: unarmed damage increase by 1 dice
5th level: Lay on Hands 1/day (based on his PrC level multiplied Wisdom bonus not Charisma)
7th level: Sacred flame*
10th level: Automatic healing 1/day**

*Sacred fist power, page 71 DotF
** When reduced to 0 or less HP (but still alive) will be healed for a number of d8 equal to his wisdom bonus

Spells***

level 1st 2nd 3rd 4th
1 0
2 1 0
3 1 1
4 1 1
5 1 1 0
6 2 1 1
7 2 1 1 0
8 2 1 1 1
9 2 2 1 1
10 2 2 2 1

*** bonus spells for high bonus on wisdom counts!

Spell list:

1st level:Bless water, comprehend languages, cure light wounds, divine favor, endure elements, invisibility to undead, magic stone, magic weapon, protection from chaos/evil, sanctuary, shield of faith.

2nd level:Aid, Augury, Bull's strenght, cure moderate wounds, delay poison, endurance, gentle repose, lesser restoration, remove paralysis, resist elements, shield other, spiritual weapon

3rd levelChain of Eyes, continual flame, cure serious wounds, daylight, flame of faith, magic circle against Chaos/Evil, magic vestement, meld into stone, negative energy protection, protection from elements, remove curse, remove disease, water walk.

4th levelAir Walk, Beast claws, Cure critical wounds, dispel Chaos/Evil, divination, divine power, freedom of movement, imbue with spell ability, neutralize poison, restoration, tongue, unfailing endurance.

that's it. Not unbalanced afterall, in my opinion. Suggestion are needed!

Automatic healing: is that once a day?

Why Iron Will Feat?

I'd actually up the Heal ranks and lower or get rid of the BAB.

Not too bad. Good job.

Automatic healing is once per day. Yes. (i will edit the thread to be clearer.

Iron will? Dunno, perhaps i was simply tryng to get more points from the CCE. Shame on me! Seriously talkin, i thought that they shoud be an example of duty, never be trapped in mind affecting spells. Do you suggest something different and more... accurate? Extra stunning attacks should do the job, for their code of conduct. (another point to edit)

Bab progression as the standard monk i think is ineluttable, otherwise will loose a lot from taking this PrC; after all he should be a master in knockin' out opponents!
