Monk Werebear - Afflicted Lycanthrope

Ascii King

First Post
My 4th level monk just got bit by a werebear and has become inflicted with lycanthropy. I am working on converting him using the template, but I have a few questions.

Level Adjustment

Same as the base creature +2 (afflicted) or +3 (natural). In addition, a lycanthrope’s character level is increased by the number of racial Hit Dice the base animal has.

Would base creature +2 mean that my monk just became 6th level?
Is the racial Hit Dice of the base animal it's own class, making my guy a monk 6 / werebear 6?
Am I even interpreting this right?

Also, since the monk class has severe restrictions based on multiclassing that say if I raise any levels in another class, I can no longer raise levels as a monk. Does this apply to my werebear levels? Do I have to give up being a monk because I gained werebear levels?

Like a member of any other class, a monk may be a multiclass character, but multiclass monks face a special restriction. A monk who gains a new class or (if already multiclass) raises another class by a level may never again raise her monk level, though she retains all her monk abilities.

Your monk has 4 class levels. Now that he has been afflicted with lycanthropy, he will gain 6 racial HD of bear. Racial HD are always considered to be favored class levels and won't mess up your monk progression. Your character is now 10HD with base attack and saves from your monk levels and your bear HD (3BA and 4/4/4saves from monk + 4BA and 5/5/5 saves from bear HD... total of 7 base attack and 9 base save in all three saves). You also have a level adjustment of +2. This means that while your character has 10 total HD, he has an ECL of 12. In order to gain your next class level, you will need to reach the amount listed to gain level 13 in the PHB.

Whoot! Thanks, guys. I'm actually happy to have been inflicted with this horrible condition now.

And by the way, my 4th level grappling Monk would have kicked that werebear PC's ass if the DM hadn't improperly ruled that natural AC counts against touch attacks. (Had him down and immobile for two rounds)
