Monks: Wis for all Saves?

What do you think of Monks getting their save bonuses solely from Wisdom instead of the typical Con for Fort and Dex for Reflex?

I was thinking of changing it to reflect the monks' discipline of mind over body, and to allow them to take more pain (fort) and how to dodge more effectively(reflex).

Perhaps it's a bit too empowering for them, but after all they are still kinda weak as a class IMO, requiring magic 'power-ups' to AC and damage to come remotely close to being a front line fighter. I thought I would make up for it by providing them with yet another reason to boost Wis.

I like the idea but the power is fairly subjective... The number of boosts to help them overlap, alot of non-core spalt books have that sorta thing. On the otherhand you might just play the big three on that hand it might be fair.

IMO, the whole mind over body/discipline thing is reflected already in that monks have good base save bonuses in all three categories.

If anything, it would cause more people in standard array setups to play monks. Right now, the stat dependencies of monks in virtually every stat makes 25 pt buy nearly impossible.

In an "Ooh i rolled an 18.... +4 to all stats yay!" game I'd be wary of this. Wis gets way too much leverage for anyone to get more than +2 in it at level 1 should you follow this house rule, imo.

Monks already have their "mind over matter" reflected in getting all good base saves, wis to AC, their various KI abilities, and so on. I don't think adding wis to all their saves will make that any more prominent within the class, but rather will allow people to much them even further. Plus you enter into the problem of multiclassing. Do they retain this wonderful ability? Do they gain it at 1st level? Otherwise one level (actually two) of monk is beautiful to no end.

I don't think it's a good idea. But it's not that unbalanced either, as long as they lose the Con and Dex mod to the Fort and Refl saves.

The monks with high strength and wis may have nice saves, but they still lack AC and hitpoints.

Thanks for the great input, and upon reflection I don't think I will be changing the bonuses to saves. After some thought I agree that the 'mind over matter' thing is already reflected in their already exceptional saves.
