Monster bonus damage on multiple attacks?

And this from products that are playtested, receive peer review, professional assistance and design, etc.

So yeah, I have to assume that newbie DMs face some real problems. Like the thread about cool encounters where one was marred because 4 people died due to a monster being cooler than it should have been for its level.

I understand that mistakes make it through - but I wonder why some of these fairly obvious mistakes never see errata (or don't see errata in the 1st two years after publishing). On the other hand, there's quite a few very subtle errata on the list too...

Oh well - good catch!

Just for the record I ran the encounter with only one of the halfling slingers (LFR rules because only four players turned up). Although it had an advantage in being able to climb up a tree before initiative was rolled, it failed it's stealth vs. passive perception to hide and was obliterated by, I think, the psion.

In fact, the whole encounter had the players doing so much damage so fast that it only went for about four rounds IIRC, and I only downed one of them (and he was 1st-level).

Without combat advantage against anyone in range, I got one Stone Rain off against the psion (or was it the wizard... can't remember) and missed every shot. The Slinger was dead the next round, even after using Second Chance.

This is the danger of "spike damage creatures".

9/10 out of 10 you can use these monsters, and they may be just fine. You might in fact think they are a little weak. And when the stars align, suddenly they obliterate your party in what should be a casual straight up fight.

Some people like that, some people don't.
