Monsters of Cool

Displacer Beast and Blink Dog - the first monster rivalry that caught my imagination. Both had odd, and oddly similar, powers that made them natural rivals - in D&D logic, at least.
Seconded!
I pretty much disliske all of the other critters Col mentioned, though. They may be iconic, but they don't qualify as 'cool' imho.

For me, there are far too many to list.

Just a few off the top of my head:

Chronotyryns: Extraplanar avians that believe themselves to be the masters of time. They have cool powers, great potential for adventure hooks, and are magical beasts, not outsiders as many might expect.

Xixecal: An angry walking glacier that is the unwanted offspring of gods. Where it walks, a dire winter precededs and follows it.

It isn't very original, but I'm looking forward to siccing an Astral Stalker (MM3) on the party. "Let's play Predator!"

I also like the concept of the Brood Keeper as well.

In addition, I find the the Gray Rander's tendency to adopt other critter kinda cool. It's only a meat shield, I know, but it's kinda sweet in a way. :)

Rust Monster is at the top of my happy list right now. It helped my bullywug fighter chief power attack the group's knight at full power! *grin*

Ya that chief packs a serious punch. How is the Bullywug Gambit going for you and your group?

My favourite monsters include: Yuan-Ti, Githzerai, Aboleths, Mind Flayers, Ghouls, Liches.

we actually have had one of those on us for a few sessions now. actually, it hasn't done anything yet. i think the DM is waiting until we forget about it, to surprise us even better.
