Moo! Err... Bovines in D&D

There are also Yakfolk in the MMII, I believe. Not sure how similar Yaks are to bovine and goats and such, but it seems as if they would be fairly similar.

Yaks are bovines. Definitely more closely related to the generic "bull" that is the Minotaur than a goat would be. I guess I called them Yak-Men in my OP rather than the more PC Yakfolk term that has come to be used for such creatures (like Lizardfolk and Merfolk, rather than the former Lizardmen and Mermen).

I don't have the MMII, though, but from what I've heard, Yakfolk are pretty wildly different from Minotaurs, aren't they? Something like possessing people or somesuch? Will have to consider how I would relate the two, if at all.

Actually, the minotaur was the offspring of a sacrifical bull and the Queen of Crete. The refused to sacrifice the bull, so Zeus decided to teach him a lesson and got Aphrodite to make the Queen fall in love with it. Kinky, huh?
That's not the kinky bit. That's where Pasiphae (the queen) gets Daedalus to build a hollow wooden cow for her to climb into, so that she can be impregnated by the bull.

That's both kinky and ingenious !

You are correct, sir. They are highly intelligent mastermind race. While they don't have the alien appearance of the illithid, or the sex-appeal of drow, I think yakfolk make a great villain race, like the two I listed.

For what it's worth, Yakfolk/Yak-Men originated in the Al-Qadim setting iirc. Their racial name for themselves is Yikaria.

The Goatfolk or Ibixian can be found on page 63 of Monster Manual 3.

I'd forgotten that Ibixians turned up in MMIII. I remember wondering at the time why they didn't simply use the Goatmen from Red Steel (as they were an already extant race). Hmm... Maybe I'll have to think about doing something with Caprid-people after I finish working on my Minotaur/Bovine-people project.
