D&D 5E Moonbow Sorlock build help please folks.

Hello everybody! ;)

I'm looking to start in a new game and I'm struggling with how to best plan my Moonbow Sorlock. Let me start by saying I am not a min max player or a powergamer. I am all about the RP. However, I neither want to create a gimped/useless character.

Ok so my thoughts so far is I don't want multi class into another class and I want to be helpful in combat but not take the shine off other players. Also i want to have utility outside of combat.

For race and stats I am favoring half elf with standard array after racial bonuses of Str 8 Dex 16 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 12 Cha 16.

So I am looking at War 5 / Sor 15. First 4 in War using ASI either boosting Dex to 18 or going sharpshooter. The level 6 will be War 5th then rest in Sor.

Patron obviously Fey. Pact obviously blade. Invocations moonbow / devils sight / either agonising blast or repelling blast or thirsting blade.

Sorcerer most likely draconic origin.

Obviously where the situation is appropriate I want to be inside a darkness bubble in combat when it doesn't hinder the party. Rest of group I think is going to be: a dwarf cleric / gnome monk / human ranger / and a rogue.

So any thoughts or input on best spells to compliment this build or level progressions or invocation options.

Hi Jason and welcome to the boards! Have some XP for your first post!

I run a WildSor/Chain Feylock myself and love the combo. IME it's really hard in 5e to make a "gimped" character, so my first piece of advice would be to take spells and abilities that seem the most fun to you!

But I would consider a Wild Sorcerer in your case, especially if your DM rules that every time you use your Tides of Chaos, you Surge the next time you cast a leveled spell.

And of course be sure to take first Enlarge and then Haste. Those are two of the best sorcerer spells since you can twin them, and as a Pact of the Blade benefit yourself and a teammate. You also don't have to have a high Cha to benefit from them, so you may want to consider letting your Cha be a bit lower in favor of higher Con to help with both Hit Points and concentration checks.

Best of luck!
