More Castles & Crusades details

Can't stop all min maxing, players will be players and heck, some players play for the sake of min maxing. Although I have never put that much thought into it, i have played with several people who do and they always surprise me with their cpacity to 'x.' My attempts usually end up as worthless hodgepodges.

In any respect, the adjustments are there, negative and positive. ranging from -2 to a +1.

I think I'm getting a better picture of the rules now, and it's looking more like what I suspected (though the saving throws surprised me).

I am oathbound not tell you all why the C&C Ranger rules the universe...dang.

You don't have to, but if a certain ranger gets a certain kind of bonus to a whole lotta of a certain kind of creatures, then I'll be happy again for the first time in about, oh, 14 years or so. :D

There are a few other surprises in there.

I think we might have moved you a little closer to the 'happy' hunting grounds.

Hmmm...the ability adjustment (+3 for 18) make me wonder what was done with racial ability adjustments. They could have been scrapped, a la Basic D&D, or left in (with the chance of min/maxing that could entail, as players take races that change their bonuses but not their penalties -- A Dex 15, Con 11 character could get cheese this way with a +2 Dex, -2 Con or +1 Dex, -1 Con if an elf), or perhaps "virtual" bonuses were put in, a la the Basic D&D halfling. Here, for instance, a character with 16 dex who was an elf would be treated as if it had a +3 bonus, instead of a +2 one, and a 3 dex elf woudl be treated as if it had a -2 penalty instead of a -3 one, but the ability score would not change).

Ahhh, but remember what D&D character creation had that 1e character creation did not... You could lower your STR, WIS, or INT to raise your prime requisite (whether it was 2 or 3 points to raise the PR 1 depended on which edition you were playing). So the Fighter with a STR of 16 and INT and WIS of 11 or 12, could raise his STR to 18 without incurring any real penalty for lowering his INT and WIS. IMO, that's the real reason there weren't any racial ability adjustments.

I'm looking forward to C&C. It is unlikely to replace my regular weekly D&D game but it may indeed become the rules I use when playign with my fairly young son if it proves to be easy enough to read he's getting the C&C players book foir his birthday this year. He's already managing with a homebrew basic i cooked up out of the SRD so I think C&C (from what i know) is the next step in his RPG experience.

I don't know whether people will like it or not - I sure hope so, as most of us playtesters do. ;) But you have to keep in mind that this game was created for a gaming niche; those who like their games simple and old school. It may not be your cup of tea, and that is fine, too. :)

Well not all playtesters do. :( Like what the Troll Lords are doing and I support them in their attempt. I wanted an improved 3e. But the game is to much like the earlier editions for my tastes. That plus I was really turned off by the boards very strong anti-3e views. (not the Troll Lord though)

I'm not one of hte playtesters but I'll make a couple of points:

1) THere's no way they could satisfy all the playtesters involved in this project.

2) I think it's been pretty clear from the start that C&C would have some sort of retro theme pointing back to AD&D.

Dissension in the ranks!

Off with his head :]
Ok maybe not, he's still playtesting.

Off with his hands
Ok maybe not, he needs to roll dice.

Off with his feet :o
Ok maybe not, he needs to get to the game.

Ohhhh shoot :\

Fact is, not everyone is going to like the game and it may not be many people's cup-o-tea. But we do appreciate all the help the playtesters have given us and the well wishes we recieve from those who do not even intend to play the game.

I hope that people take a look at it though. It should be out soon. AND someone could graft the 3e lite on top of it??? Volunteers anyone? ;)

Edit: Nah, inappropriate for this particular venue. Will discuss elsewhere. :)

I am, however, greatly looking forward to C&C. Pretty much a guaranteed sale, here.
