Most mispronounced monster names

I know its not a monster but what about that prestidigitation (sp?) spell. Like the spell, but the name's too long. My brother keeps calling it prestigation.

Well, the name is long, but once you read through it, there are no pitfalls in it, like it is in ixitchitchatxxx.

I haven't checked to see if it's been mentioned before, but I always pronounce wights like 'wits' even though I know it's supposed to rhyme with light.

That's right. I'd forgotten. It's been too long since I've studied French & my last DM pronounced Boo-lay so much I'd forgotten how I USED to pronounce it. (as saying anything other than boo-lay meant you were refereing to some imaginary creature & lost your action for the round).

I used to call a Bullette Bull-Let, as in Let the Bull. I stressed the break between the 2 syllables more, so I could say Shoot the Bul-let with the Bullet & people would know the difference.

But, Boo-lay does sound more festive. More of a party-monster.

If I recall right, it's pronounced "Land Shark";)

"I mispronounced Oregon when I moved here from Texas. Boy did I get disabused of that error quickly! Now I cringe when national newscasters say "Or-ee-gone"."

Heh, that's why I've got the correction at left, to help out all those foreigners. Sounds like your acclimated now ... but tell me, how did you do with "Willamette", "Chinook" and "Deschutes"?

I waited until I heard someone else say 'em! ;)
The other day I got really annoyed when I heard the narrator on a show on Court TV pronounce The Dalles as "The Dales".

Darnit! I thought of a monster name of unknown (to me) pronunciation the other day, but now I can't remember what it was!!

I knew I was forgetting one! I saw that episode, too! I laughed the first time, but it got really annoying as it went. (Can't believe I forgot to mention The Dalles ... my brother lives there, after all.)

Yeah, I know this thread got old, but I was looking at some minis and was reminded of another pronunciation conundrum.

Yuan-ti: everybody in my group pronounces it "yawn-tee". Any takers for correct Chinese pronunciation?

[Edit] And while we're at it, how do you pronounce 'destrachan'? :D

Yuan-ti = you on tee (or tea).

Tarrasque is pronounced any of these ways:
Godzilla with the serial numbers filed off
TPK
You're angered the DM
Can you outrun a black hole?

The British last name Featherstonehaugh is pronounced Fan-shaw. Not a monster, I know, but it tickles my fancy.
