MtG Movie?

Hey, it's actually a challenge for good directors to find something "unfilmable" and make it work. (Making work should mean "be a good, quality piece of entertainment and art", but in pratice it can also mean "makes enough money to make the studio happy" to "makes the director enough money". And sometimes, trying means failing :) )
(see "Phone Booth", the legend says this was actually a "challenge" from the grand master Hitchcock himself...)

Oh, and please, post someone better than me a link the the Minesweeper "Movie Trailer"? :)

Serious. Writers and directors pride themselves on taking what is called a "high concept" and making it into a workable film. I don't see anything wrong with basing a film on Monopoly, Candy Land, Battleship, etc. After all, the board game is just a starting point. Your story could be anything from that jumping off point.

Well, 10 to 1 the movies will be written to 'grow the brand' so there is little chance the Candyland will be made into a horror movie.

Though if people wind up getting impaled on stinging spikes of peppermint death, I will be soooo watching that movie.

Brad
They did, and at the end they say what the "actual" ending is. It was a good movie. One of my fave growing up.

What would they make a monopoly movie out of? there's no plot in the board game. What? Two rich guys makinga bet in the 1930s to buy the most expensive real estate in one of various regions and basing points off oit. One guy being really rich and likable and the other a scumbag. Then we follow the one guy as he travels around the world into 15 minute episodes of him getting the rich estate while the other guy gets others. Then they both end up fighting over board walk.

You could have a bunch of protagonists all out to become property tycoons, and the ups and downs of the plot could be drawn from some of the chance and community chest cards - someone gets sent to jail, everyone gets invited to someone elses birthday party, that kind of thing.

Not that I'd see a movie like that :)

I agree, but I'm still more baffled by the thought of movies based on Monopoly, Candy Land, and Battle Ship.
I absolutely see Candy Lane as a direct to video kids movie. I think Monopoly could be done in a similar fashion.

I remember hearing that it was shot with several endings, and at any given cinema you wouldn't be sure which was the actual ending.

I don't know if they ever did that though.
Indeed, as mentioned above. I saw it in the theater and was lucky enough to get the "best" ending (the final one on the movie/DVD).

Parents should count themselves lucky if that is the case. The Candyland name is more than big enough for an over hyped holiday box office release, with a deluge of obnoxious tie in merchandise. I can't see the suits letting the money get away by just a Direct to video release just because it would save parents the cost of extra tickets, gas, popcorn, toys and fast food on the way home since the kids will have to get the happy meal with their new favorite characters.

Oh, and as a preemptive strike against those who say the property promotes bad eating habits, they can launch a splenda'ed out 'Low suger' candy line  . Just think, Upcharge once for the "Candyland name" :\ , Upcharge twice for it being 'Health conscious' .

Yeah, I considered making a comment about Trump, but I wasn't sure how much property he had on the Boardwalk.

I remember there were supposed to be multiple endings. The last time I saw the movie (pre-DVD), I think the tape had them stacked together or something in a single ending. Been a while since I saw it so I don't remember it. It's a fun movie though.

From what I remember, Mr Body basically had dug up dirt on the six characters, and he was going to blackmail them. Then he got bumped off. However, what nobody knew is that
Mr Green was actually an FBI agent, and he calls in the Feds at the end and arrests everyone else.

If you think about some of the Community Chest and Chance cards, I can see something of a plot for a Monopoly movie. Someone goes to jail? They have a 'get out of jail free card'. Heck, that term has even made its way into everyday parlance. Not sure about 'winning a beauty contest', but who knows. I bet if you took all those cards and flipped them over, you could string together something of a plot (or at least the elements of a plot).
