D&D 5E Multicllass problem..... is he right?

I didn't want to say that .... but that's been my experience too. That's why I pointed it out.

I am always open to correction (for example, "I asked MM in a tweet, and this was his response,") but the generic, "I contacted Wizards and they told me it was okay!" would set off alarm bells, and I'd probably inquire as to the method of contact, documentation, etc.

Maybe their toll-free rules clarification service?

Yeah, if someone claims they contacted Wizards and confirmed it was ok, I'd simply ask them to show the documentation of such contact, be it an email, tweet or whatever. If they're full of it, that'll shut them up pretty quick.

Nah... its quite possible that he did contact WotC and they did say 'it' was okay.

What I don't trust, is exactly what he asked them.

"Hey, as a level 1 monk, can I MC into sorcerer?
Yes.
"Do I still get the feature that makes my AC 13+Dex?"
Yes.

What he (probably) failed to ask, is if that stacked with the Monks UD.

My own response to such claims is alot more blunt.
I simply point out that I'm the DM & it'll work how I rule.

I don't even see a clear indication that he claimed it stacked with the monk rule.

At first level he has AC 10 + DEX & WIS modifiers, now that he is MC he is using the base AC of 13 (from Draconic SORC) and then adding the MONK modifiers. So he is basing the AC on BASE 13 + DEX & WIS.

I understand now what everyone is talking about as far as he can choose one or the other.....
MONK: AC 10 + DEX & WIS ....OR SORC: AC 13+DEX

Thanks

I think this guy is twisting a few rules but not sure. He says he has contacted Wizard about this before. so here is what's going on.
He has a 1/2 ELF LEVEL 1 MONK and just made LEVEL 2 but instead takes the LEVEL as a MULTI class of SORCERER then choices the origin or Draconic to get the base AC of 13 instead of the standard 10. Is this a legit thing? I would think since he is multi classed he would not get that option. What's everyone think?

Yes it works but as a Monk that is stupid for several reason Monk gets natural armor based off dex and wisdom so they do not stack. If he maxes wisdom and dex even as 1 lvl sorcerer he will not have more than 20 ac and same would go for Barbarian natural armor

Can it be helpful sure on a Bard build better than studded leather and you leverage charisma and extra spells

The answer is yes but as a monk he is not gaining anything

Logically it would be ok for those two to stack.

Monks wisdom just adds to dexterity for AC via dodging the attacks.

Sorcerers armor is just hardened skin.

as house rule 13+dex+wis could be too much. You could have 19 AC on lvl2.

maybe give him as monk/sorcerer AC 11+dex+wis. One AC more wont break much and it will feel that he didn't multiclass for nothing.
