I didn't want to say that .... but that's been my experience too. That's why I pointed it out.
I am always open to correction (for example, "I asked MM in a tweet, and this was his response,") but the generic, "I contacted Wizards and they told me it was okay!" would set off alarm bells, and I'd probably inquire as to the method of contact, documentation, etc.
Maybe their toll-free rules clarification service?
Yeah, if someone claims they contacted Wizards and confirmed it was ok, I'd simply ask them to show the documentation of such contact, be it an email, tweet or whatever. If they're full of it, that'll shut them up pretty quick.
