Muppet Show (Season 1) on DVD August 9th! (Got it!)

To intoduce our guest star, that's what I'm here to do..
It really makes me happy to introduce to you...

Ah gods, the numer of songs permanently warped in my mind from seeing it on the Muppet Show...

Java
16th Century Garden
We Must Believe in Magic
The Girl from Ipanema
Even the theme from Goldfinger...

So very many others... one great tragedy is that the Beatles broke up without ever being on the Muppet Show - they would have fit right in.

The Auld Grump - Kermit was one of my role models.

On one of the "Best of..." DVDs is Linda Ronstat (sp?) and she sings "Blue Bayou" in a swamp setting... old cabin, swamp, cattails, and LOTS of muppet frogs. Well, the frogs go "ribbit...ribbit, ribbit" during the chorus and now whenever I hear the song playing in my local Wegmans, which is actually often, I find myself singing the "ribbit" part along w/ the song. Stupid, I know, but it's kinda funny... especially when I forget I'm doing aloud and people look at me. :heh:

I remember Bob Hope, George Burns, the Cheetos guy (black curly hair & big full mustache), Marty Feldman, Blondie, so many people from that show. It's the first place I saw a lot of the "old" actors and actresses & sometimes it was the only place I knew them from. Ah, good times, good times.

Oh, and if I remember correctly, The Muppet Movie might be the first movie I ever saw at a theatre. It's either that or Pete's Dragon. :)

PS... since we're talking Jim Henson DVDs... I recommend "Jim Henson's: The Storyteller" DVD (the one w/ John Hurt... there's another of Greek fables, but I haven't seen it). Really, really good. It wasn't a series itself, but part of "The Jim Henson Hour" where Henson himself would appear with a big white lion muppet/puppet and he'd introduce what was going to be in that episode. That was a cool show too.

Heck with the Beatles. One of the great tragedies of MY life is that I'll never get to be the special guest star on the Muppet Show.

That must have been stupid amounts of fun. I don't understand how ANYBODY got through even one take without giggling like a madman.

Remember Carol Burnett and Miss Piggy? Hee.
