Murder is the Pits

Michael sighs and blames himself for not putting other people first. He's not at all sure Enlarge Person is going to be helpful.
"I was hoping Fire actually used fire in combat...it would have been very mystically appropriate."
He ponders for a moment.
"Does it count as a win if your opponent leaves the arena? I don't particularly feel like taking a chance on killing the little guys accidentally, and if Sela grants strength to my words, I might just be able to get them to run off."
(i.e. cast Command)
"If that doesn't work, I have various blessings for our offense and defense, as well as our weapons.
(Bless is not bad, but does Vanitri have any thoughts about the difference between magic weapon, Divine Favor, and Shield of Faith? I know they all do different things, but any thoughts? I even thought about Magic Stone)
"I have one spell reserved that should be very dramatic. You might say I'm thinking it's best as a really big finish."
(Heh...Enlarge Person is fun...)

"If one of your opponents runs away, and you and your partner can double team the other one, that ought to result in a win regardless."

(Note that this is an in-character response. Ironwolf is unfamilliar with the short duration of command.)

"The problem is they run away for only a few seconds. If they have missile weapons, all that does is return them to their preferred position: away from big smashy guys like me."
He ponders
"That may be a strategy, though. I can skip the Bless, shield us both with the faith and power of Sela, and under her protection, we can double-team one guy, trusting to our protections to save us from the other as we wallop the one. It'll be just like herding goats.
Thoughts, Vanitri?"

ooc: Ah, you beat me to the punch there on my edit.

"Perhaps a command to fall, then, rather than to run? They are stuck in the position you say favors you, and especially vulnerable."

"I"m sure they have good medics, and I fear that our opponents won't show the same compassion as you do my friend. So don't take it easy, because the longer it goes, the worse it could get for us. Not being teribly familiar with the spells, I know bless helps us hit, and if they are as shifty as they sound, hitting them could be a problem. I can imagine what magic weapon does, and that should help you hit and damage a bit better, but it will only help one of us, and I don't think it will help much with the fine balance of this blade I now have. I would guess Divine favor blesses you as well, perhps in a manor similar to your using magic weapon. Shield of Faith could help defend one of us, and given you will be much better armored than I" he says pointing at the plate "I think I could probaby use a boost in that area. Command could be good, but I'd think of it more as a risk. What happens if you don't effect them? As for saving the enlarge, well, you may not want to play that card immediately, but don't wait too long. Just take a step back and grow, and you should be able to reach them while they won't be able to reach you."

Vanitri listens to Michael's idea "That sounds like a plan, and I'm mobile enough to perhaps get around them and flank one, but we should be careful not to get to comfortable even while protected by Sela, that could be dangerous thinking."

"Another thought, perhaps when you enlarge yourself, you can try to grapple one and let me strike him. He should be much easier to hit once you grapple him, and with your huge size advantage, it should be quite easy."

OOC: Magic weapon and divine favor are a wash for you as far as effectiveness, though Divine favor might get a slight edge by virtue of being a bonus to any attack you make. The multi-shield idea isn't a bad one, depending on how hard they are to hit. With Grapple, you'l get a +8 check if you can hit their touch AC while enlarged, and then they're flatfooted as far as I'm concerned (So are you, but you don't realy care most of the time) and I can get a good sneak attack in.

Jumping Tumbling halflings sound like a pair of rogues to me: theyll try and stay in 30 feet and use their sneak attack with thrown daggers.
Entropic shield would be really nice right about now.
Obscuring mist might make them go close, but might cause us as many problems as them...and someone would complain it might spoil the view.
I think the best bet is defeat in detail, which is easier because they'll have to split up to flank us. Take total defense the first round, refocus, then gang up on the closest one. I have a Guidance for each of us, which is a +1 on one attack, so we might have a little extra edge on the first rush.
The Enlarge Person goes in reserve for the second wave, then, because if we get tagged badly, we'll need one decent healing. Or...

Michael gnaws his lip meditatively.
"A warding of Sela for you, Vanitri, and either a warding for me or a blessing for us both."
He eyes the half plate carefully.
"A blessing, I think. My Enlarge person spell also gives me some protection, oddly enough."
He steps away for a moment to pray.
Hail Sela, full of grace.
Help me not get stabbed in the face.
Amen

After a moment he looks up.
"I guess I'd better get me into my new iron duds. Anybody ever worn one of these before?"
He indicates the half plate, as he starts trying to strap on the obvious bits.

Vanitri relays what he finds out to his friends.

"Ros, I remember you used to be pretty good at grabbing things and tripping people with the whip. Think you still remember how to do that? Perhaps you could keep them off balance enough while Ironwolf takes them down."

Rosalynn picks up the whip and looks at it. "It's an idea Van. I'll take the whip just in case."

"Studded lather isn't very flashy, but i'll see what I can scroung up," Petra says. She returns just before the match with a suit that someone has painted all over with some sort of inks, and what looks like ladies nail polish on the studs, forming an interlocking pattern of blue and red. "Old Ron is willing to loan this to you for the match, and tommorrow's if need be, but he won't sell it to you... its a souvenir from his 'neice', and I figure you can buy a cleaner set later."

ooc: in your training session the prior day, petra had warned you against using spells that would immediately end the match, especially in non dramatic ways. A gladiator simply falling asleep for instance, or running away is just not good theater. She loved "enlarge person though, and indicated some dramatic moments for its use.

Ironwolf points out to Vanitri the suit of studded leather he just changed out of, should Petra not be able to find a flashy suit of same.

"Why don't I use Ironwolf's for now, and save old Ron's from some damage. If you can find a flashier chain shirt, that would work, but I was hoping for something a bit less limiting. If I can get my hands some, I've heard legends of Mithril chain shirts that are as light as leather and as tough as chain. I think I can almost afford one with what I have in the bank. Hopefully the wagers will come through." Vanitri quickly suits up and straps on his weapons. "Petra, is there a safe place to store the rest of our gear? I'm sure I don't need to go in with my backpack."

"Don't forget to bring in a spare weapon or two. Dome of the most dangerous opponents are the ones that are good at neutralizing your weapon."

Vanitri is geared to go, wearing Ironwolf's studded leather, with his normal rapier, the masterwork rapier, the short sword, and his 2 daggers. If it's not disallowed, he'll even take in his bow and some arrows. (Sheet should be updated, didn't bother with weight, because it shouldnt be an issue.)
