If you are a child of the 80s, this should strike home pretty well...

Y'know, as funny as that is- and it IS funny!- I recall bands from the 80's that were doing nearly the same thing...except they were serious.

The one thing Rock Sugar missed that they should have done is have the lead guitarist playing a [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncgqt6fI6iQ&feature=related"]Hello Kitty Squire[/ame] or a [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s41tCwFCj_U"]Daisy Rock[/ame] guitar.

I recall a band coming on the radio- my metalhead buddy Bobby and I were listening to Z-Rock or some such- and the DJ was clearly unimpressed with the band as he gave the intro.

The song that got played was essentially a version of Journey's "Any Way You Want It" with some different lyrics, or similar lyrics in a different order done by a band trying to sound like Cinderella and Saxon at the same time.

(No, it didn't work.)

As the DJ said, "And this is what passes for originality these days."

Well, "mashups" are pretty common these days.

Along slightly different lines...

Hayseed Dixie - proving how far rock music isn't from it's blues roots...

The Austin trio, The Bad Livers, consists of a stripped-down drum kit (snare, bass, cymbal), stand-up bass, and a banjo player.

And they do an absolutely smoking version of Metallica's "Fight Fire with Fire."
