My character generation method

Therefore, the best solution I've come up with is to roll them bones, in whatever method works out well, and then have the players hold a trading session to trade off those dice. Any form of coercion or bribery is permitted during the trading session, and as such, by the end of the session, you have a group where everyone has a balanced character: The stats aren't necessarily equal, but this is fine: Not all characters have equally demanding stats, and if a player rolls badly, and another player rolls well, he can always bribe the other player for some points.

This is an interesting concept. What sorts of things are the players allowed or capable of trading between each other. I'm very interested in how this works...

Nice. A good system for relatively high player control while giving some organic effect.

On any stat generation thread I have to give a plug for my new favorite system.
1. Take a deck of cards. Remove 24 cards - four aces, four 2s, four 3s, four 4s, four 5s and four 6s,
2. Shuffle and deal into 6 stacks of 4 cards,
3. Turn over in order: str, dex, etc., taking best 3 of 4 cards,
4. Swap any two stats.

I used this in my current game, and I and the players were very happy with it. Everyone was able to play a character concept they were interested in, yet results were organic with interesting strengths and weaknesses. Results were 2 characters with an effective 28 point buy, 2 characters with an effective 30 point buy.

You can also hand out 18 cards (2 2s, 4 each of 3-6 works for 36 point buy equivelant) and have the players arrange 3 cards per stat as desired.
