This isn't really representing my home province well...
Well, it's a shame you don't appreciate the idea of community service. I came from Brampton originally, and if I recall correctly, Whitby is a similar sort of suburb. Neighbourhoods in the 'burbs tend to be incredibly insular, with people sometimes not even socializing with their next door neighbours, much less becoming an active part in any community. I personally feel that the required 40 hours of community service in Ontario is a necessary thing, because otherwise, us suburbanites might forget that a world exists outside of our daily lives.
There is so much your friend could have done to fulfil that community service obligation. Doing yardwork for neighbours, babysitting for someone, picking up trash along the side of the road... you know, things that actually benefit the community. I'm not saying gaming doesn't benefit the community; gaming is an excellent social activity that can bring together complete stangers. However, I think your friend was way out of line with the material that was introduced in that game. I also think your friend had every opportunity to play things closer to the cuff, but didn't. A GM can modify any part of the game on the fly. It is so easy to see something in your GM notes, find it unappropriate to the game, and simply not introduce it.
So, no sympathy on my end. I'm a little ashamed that someone associated with my home province did something like this. I have no sympathy for this character. I'm also pretty unimpressed with the grammatical skills of a "92.7 average" student, a mark that is fairly easy to achieve given our province's subpar education and grading system (I say this as someone in school to become a high school teacher in the province of Ontario).
My major question is, why was this posted here? At the least, it's an unfunny story that offers nothing relevant. At the worst (to an Ontarian like me), it's offensive. So why did your friend want it posted here at all?
