My Gen Con Report

Now for those wondering about the Tri-Stat DX system, the tri-stat system divorced from the Anime so to say, I think that GOO had it on sale for $1 and I know one of my friends bought it. And yeah, that's BESM d20, a game that's looking great so far.

And speaking of BESM and their figures working in the MEG game, I happened to wander by a game of the Monster Action!

Now Kenzer & Company managed to beat EVERYONE to the 3.5 punch with their monster book and it was there at the Con along with a new module by Brian J.

Not quite. Adventure Retail had a couple of 3.5 supplements at Comic-Con the day after they put 3.5 out. From Penumbra I think. Next year plan for four days so you can see more.

I'll drop a note to the guys at Human Head (one of their guys is in one of my gaming groups) and see if they'll send out review copies of their wizard academy book to the staff reviewers.

Uh... The Kezner book was out about two weeks before 3.5 hit the shelf.

While you were at the Goodman booth, did you get an autographed copy of DCC #3.5: The Haunted Lighthouse by Dave Arneson? It was a GenCon ONLY module, written specifically for GenCon. Just wanted to know how it turned out.

I saw the adventure at the Goodman booth but didn't know it was written by Dave so skipped it. I figured with the stuff MEG provided me, The Hamlet of THumble (1st-2nd level module) and Siege on EbonRing Keep (AU 1st-5th level) that I didn't need to buy any more adventurers at the time. Now if I'd looked at it and noted who wrote it, might be a different story. Ah well.

I just got back from Gen Con and thought it was great. I'm really surprised to hear all the complaining about. Honestly, all that effort should be directed to kicking yourselves for not pre-registering. The opportunity was up and running for months. I strolled in and picked up my badge and event tickets within three minuets. My buddy got his mailed to him.

On the other hand, those who were waiting with the sick and feeble, should have recieved special attention and accomodation. I think it might even be law. The rest of the people waited as the result of poor planning, or procrastination - on their behalf. System failures happen. Next year will call for better contingency planning.

The Con seemed well-organized to me. The space was great. Every vendor I spoke with was unusually friendly (if you're from Boston anyway) and many of them took the time to speak with me extensively. The location was wonderful. I had some trouble finding a breakfast place, but once I did - I had the best french toast of my life.

Honestly, all that effort should be directed to kicking yourselves for not pre-registering. .

So because system failures are a possibility and the opportunity to pre-register was available for months ahead, those who say, don't use credit cards or were in the area or just wanted to stop by for a day, should kick themselves for not pre-registering? Stay away from sales amigo. "Well sir, you should be kicking yourself for not buying an extended warranty that covers our faulty software because this issue isn't covered by the basics."

That logic just fails to work for me.

If I have to beat myself up to go to a Convention, that's one convention I'm not going to. The vendor should be putting forth the extra effort, not the customer.
