My last hope...NWN2 & Vid Cards

Windows Operating System- XP
CPU - Intel Pentium 4
Motherboard- No idea
RAM (Now it is 1512 ram because we just got a gig of ram)

It is a FutureShop Cicero computer.

Flexor the Mighty!- We just upgraded EVERYTHING up to the game's standards in hopes that it would make the card work.

Well you should have enough RAM, but what is the speed of that CPU? Pentium 4 is an old CPU. The problem is the fastest PCI video card is probably going to choke under the stress of NWN. Steel Wind could probably tell you more since I think he worked on part of the game, but I think it is going to need a resonably fast video card, and I don't think you can get that in plain PCI. I hope I'm wrong though and you get it running.

Thank you everybody for all your help. :) We found out that we don't have an AGP port :(. So we are going to get another gmae that is compatible with what we have.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a good PC game that is fantasy related (we have the first NWN and Baulders gate 2)?

I'd suggest Fable, one of my favorite rpgs if you're into western ones (guessing you are, since NWN and BG2 fall into that category). The Lost Chapters version (that's the original game with a whole new continent added) is only $20.

If you're into Star Wars, there's yet another couple Xbox ports to the PC in the fantastic Knights of the Old Republic game (made by Bioware, who did BG2 and NWN1) and the lesser-and-slightly-screwy-yet-still-good sequel (done by Obsidian, who did NWN2).

Jade Empire (made yet again by Bioware) is also being ported over to the PC soon.

Fable and the KotOR games will run just fine on your system. Jade Empire might push your computer a bit more but I wouldn't worry too much. It did play just fine on the Xbox, after all.

This is a tough bill to fulfill because the woe is that RPGs like BG2 and NWN1 are becoming a dying breed. NWN2 was the hope of many that would continue the genre' but as has been pointed out NWN2 is a system hog -- which shows some serious poor coding.

Since your system is older and limited it would be hard to recommend anything new. Have you played any other style of RPG like Dungeon Siege? It is hack & slash and it certainly is not like the BG series but it can be a nice minor gem of a game. Dungeon Sige II might play on your system and it is better than 1 and has a much better plot with tons of side quests.

Have you downloaded any of the NWN1 community made modules? They are free and many are absolutely excellent. Many are better than NWN1 in plot and content! If you need suggestions let us know. Adam Miller's work is one I highly recommend.

Forgot to add, if you do end up getting a new video card, that ATI X1300 is probably your best bet. From the benchmarks I've seen, it's basically the most powerful standard PCI card available at the moment. Certanly 256MB of GDDR2 isn't shabby.

And if you do like Dungeon Siege II (which had some very positive reviews, iirc), there's always Titan Quest. Or the granddaddy of them all: Diablo 2.
