My players want me to run Werewolf

Tinker Gnome

Well, it is really onlt two of them, and one has not played with the group in a while(D&D) we searched all over for the book but could not find it. Anyways, I am guessing the premise is that the PCs play Werewolves and stuff like that. I was wondering though, how different is it from D&D? And would someone who has DMed D&D for roughly a year have any trouble with it?

Well I think you're asking about Werewolf: The Apocolypse... or whatever they call it now that the World of Darkness has Rebooted. It's a White Wolf World of Darkness game... it doesn't play much like normal D&D. It's very heavy on role playing... so if your players are just looking to rip things apart with their claws I say stick with the Templates in the MM.

Yeah, we did not even know what book we were really looking for . ANyways, it they probably do want to do that. I would not be surprised if the strets are red in the firrst game. Oh well, I sort of have to anyways.

You may not find a copy, instead having to wait for Werewolf: The Forsaken (Werewolf: The Apocalypse's new incarnation) to be released early next year. I'd suggest waiting as well.

Awww nutbunnies, they were all pissed off that they could not find it. Now having to wait for a couple of months will really make them angry.

I'd be surprised if you have much trouble finding a copy of the current version -- I'd guess that, like my old FLGS, many stores are offloading the old WoD stuff to make room for the new. Heck, post in the marketplace forum here on EN World, and you'll probably find a seller.

You could always try eBay (here's a search I ran for you, with some cheap and promising results). :)

Of all the World of Darkness games, Werewolf is the most D&D-like, since it's rather combat oriented. Other than learning the action resolution mechanic, it's not too hard to adapt to, though it would have a significantly different feel from just playing D&D werewolves. D&D doesn't have anything like Rage, and the Werewolf rules are much better adapted to shapeshifting than D&D's.
You may be able to find some discontinued copies of one of the previous editions around. I think I actually got my 1st ed copy discounted at Bookstar after the 2nd had come out.

You should be able to find copies in 2nd hand bookstores (sooner or later). But this may limit what supplements you can get.

I'm surprised that none of them have the game already if they really want to play. If they do, just borrow the books from them.

It's a vastly different system but it is the most 'D&D'-like in tone of the World of Darkness games in that it's somewhat more combat oriented than the others games in the series and much more focused on 'monster-bashing'. It's very, very in-character for a group of werewolves to find out that some hideous mutant Thing has crossed over from the spirit plane and is wrecking havoc, so they decide to all go kill it now.

PC's are werewolves, but they are very unique werewolves; all told, Werewolf is probably the most original setting of any WoD book.

Werewolves are like the white blood cells of the cosmos; they root out and destroy the evil infecting the world which typically manifests itself as creatures of The Wyrm, an insane god-like spirit.

Werewolves are both flesh and spirit, and they can move back and forth across the barrier between our world and the spirit world. They summon spirits to power their ceremonies, imbue items with power, and teach Gifts (magical abilities). They can indeed change into wolves, but have actually five forms: Human, the Near-Man (a more bestial human form, very strong), the War Form (your basic The Howling man/wolf hybrid), the Near Wolf (a huge dire wolf) and Wolf. They are cursed by a boundless rage that can drive them into insane berserker frenzies.
