Cedric remains silent as he leads you the short trek through the barbarian's camp, ending the walk at a smallish tent with nothing to distinguish it from the others in the camp. He indicates that you should wait, pokes his head inside the flap and speaks a few words that are muffled by the canvas. Upon withdrawing his head he holds the flap up for you to enter, his expression grim.

The interior of the tent is dim; the banked coals in the brazier keep the area quite warm. As you file in you see a tall woman with white hair laying on the pallet. She's covered with blankets even in the heat. Though it's apparent she was once quite muscular, injury or illness has withered her once proud frame and she can barely muster the energy to raise a hand in greeting. Fierce will emanates from her ice blue eyes, which are sunken in their sockets.

Her voice, once accustomed to ringing across the field of battle, is now a rough sandpaper whisper that can nevertheless be heard clearly in the cramped confines of the tent.

"Greeting, heroes. I understand that although Aradra started you on the road to our aid he was unable to accompany you here." She sighs and closes her eyes for a moment. "That is as well. Much has changed since I sent for aid, and I would not wish for my old friend to see me in my current state. He is strong of will, but I fear he would not be able to do what must be done."

Her gaze turns briefly to Heinrich. "Hello, Mage. I'm glad you were able to interpret our directions and find your way to this place. I hope I have not brought you all to your doom." Her voice fade a bit at the end of her last statement and she closes her eyes once more; this time they remain closed for long moments as silence fills the tent.

While Kalinn rests, and hoping she is listening, Heinrich speaks softly, " I haf idea for problem short term fix. If I were to return to Venza from here with one other with teleport, buy staples and load on bull ox and return with teleport here, that would give some food now for this people. The bull ox would make for good feast needed to pick up hopes fur people. Ja?"

He looks around to try and gage the level of interest.

Melisande nodded as the wizard was going to pull a few tricks (not rabbits, but maybe oxen) out of his hat. “But we know that the food situation is not the doom she called us here to attend.”

“Your pardon, Frost, I would know more of this threat that we have come all this way to deal with. The letter we read mentioned a Frost Giant called Varithian. What makes this villain so special that we must come to your clan’s aid?”

The breath rattles in the chest of the once mighty warrior, and she rouses herself at the words of Melisande and Sol. "Varithian is ancient... even older than the Ha'Gruut. It was he that our Patron, the dragon Mynhear, founded our clan to fight. In that original battle, Mynhear gave his life so that Varithian would be vanquished, but He warned that the giant would likely return one day. Against that day Mynhear committed a part of his soul to the blade Winterbite, and bade us watch for the return of the Giant and guard the world from his malice. But as the years passed, we grew lax in our vigilance; thus, his return has taken us by surprise. And, he appears to have grown strong in the ways of both warcraft and magic since his battle with Mynhear.

"He has driven us relentlessly; my people are strong and hardy, and I would put them against an army three times their number with no concern as to their victory. But this foe is too much, even for them. We are a beaten people."


The Chieftan looks around her tent briefly, then beckons you closer. She gestures with her head, indicating the six foot sword propped casually against the tent wall.

"I have brought you hear to seal my fate. My life I give gladly for the good of my people, and for the good of E'n. Winterbite is a powerful blade, carrying the spirit of Mynhear. You must add my strength, meager as it is, to the Dragon's within the blade. You must slay me with Winterbite; I am well content that my life will be spent in service to my Clan. Use the blade to slay the Giant. Once Varithian is dead, you must drive the blade through him and into the bedrock beneath, and leave it there. I have been assured that this is the only way to slay Varithian for good and all."
 

Sol takes a step back in shock as Kalinn makes the terible request. In her shock she blurts out, "Your people... do they know of this? Do they know what you ask of us? Will they understand?"
 

Kalinn closes her eyes briefly; when she opens them, both sadness and determination fill her steely gaze. "They have been told. All of them mislike this choice, and some disagree wholeheartedly. But I am their Chief, and my word is Law. Some here will not be over-fond of you after this, but most will not even hold you to blame. There will be no recriminations against you for this deed from my people. On this you have my word."

Heinrich stands horrified at what the party has been asked to do. He looks to each person in the tent looking for some reaction, and is glad that Sol shares his sentiment - Though at this time he is too shocked to know what to say!
