Mythic Arabia/Persia for D&D 3.5?

I agree. Its an unfortunate development. Al-Qadim preceeded Al-Qaida by many years, but in this knee-jerk enviroment, I doubt it would be well-recieved. WOTC would HAVE to rename it.

Al-Qadim was one of the most elegant and thoughtful products that TSR ever put out. Dragon Magazine #315 has a nice 3.3 Edition conversion for the Sha'ir class which is one of the most creative and orginal wizard/sorceror variants TSR/WOTC has put out.

Products like this that highlight middle-eastern culture, rather than focus on extreemism are very much needed.

Al-Qaeda predates Al-Qadim by at least 3 years. The name/organization Al-Qaeda or Al-Qaida has been around since the Soviets were pushed out of Afghanistan in 1989 (around February). Al-Qadim was released in 1992.

I wouldn't mind seeing the return of Al-Qadim. I never played the setting itself, but I mined the heck out of it for ideas. With such rich mythology and legend as the region has had throughout history, it seems like a good choice for a campaign setting

The entire CONAN series has an Arabian feel to it, BTW.

One thing that I like about that world is that you can literally use everything from 10,000 years of world history and it BELONGS there :)

FWIW Al Qaeda was officially founded in 1988 by Bin Laden & Muhammed Atef.

I would do it if I thought I could find someone to publish it.

Man, if you've got a website, you've got a place to publish. Seriously, pump that stuff out, I'd be super-stoked to see what kind of RP potential is in there. Us staters are generally along the lines of "South America? So, like Brazil and Peru? Don't they have cowboys there?", so I'm eager to find things that would make my players think twice.

Seriously. Go for it. Rock the casbah. Once you've got something written up, you can shop it around, and if no one picks it up, well, you'll have at least one fan here. ;)
