Name and Stat this! :)

So my wife, Valanthe, is walking outside the house, and thinks she sees a leaf. Upon closer examination, she discovers that it's this freaky bug.

Check it out:

And here, it almost looks like a moth-dragon, or something:

Maybe it's me, but I think that's wicked cool.

Now, if it were a monster, how would we stat it out?

What would we call it? :)

Crap! I saw the exact same variety of insect on my front step last night, and at first I swore it was a small dragon, as well! They must be popping up everywhere :D

I've seen stranger bugs, I can assure you. Those are some pretty cool pics, though.
Of course it's a moth. But what if it was Huge, and its back was its front (as it looks in the last picture)? Then it would be a

Animaphage (Soul Eater)
Huge Outsider (Chaotic, Extraplanar, Evil)
It's a flying, crushing, melee death machine, with the following special ability:

Circle of Death (Sp): Three times per day, as a Full Round Action, the Animaphage can rear up and create a Circle of Death (as the spell) centered on itself. The animaphage's caster level is 16th for this purpose. The Fortitude save DC is Charisma-based. Each HD of creature killed by this effect heals 1d8 HP of damage the animaphage has taken. The animaphage gains any HP over those needed for healing as Temporary HP that last for one hour.

Sorry, no time to do stats right now. Maybe I'll come back and edit.

That's actually a species of hawk moth, I believe. They are known for assuming that defensive posture and revealing their eyespots when threatened. The "eyed hwak moth" is the best comparison I know, but they are more prominent in the UK, I believe, not PA. ;)

Here in West chester PA we call these creatures "EtherMoths" for their ability to become ethereal at will.

A player once told me that their poison turns a creature ethereal forever, but he hasn't been by our table since then.

Wonder what happened to him.

Well, since it is a moth, and really looks moth-like, I'd make it like a moth.

Right, so:

Perfers to fight in the dark and has darkvision 60 ft.

Huge Creature (wingspan of 20 feet), but it does not take hide penalties when hiding in a rocky terrain.

Fly (40ft) poor.

Exposing it to light disorients it: it can only take a single move action or attack action.

Once per day it can perform a dizzying dance that acts as the spell "hypnotic pattern", as a 10th level caster.

At will: Blur (as a 10th level caster).

Then some sort of attack...I've got nothing. I'd call it a nu'kata (basterdization of the latin noctu "at night").

Hows that?
