Namor casting news

Heh. Don't let his WWE/WWF showmanship cloud your opinion. I believe he could pull off being regal. After all, when he was a heel, The Rock always come off as high-and-mighty, looking down at everyone.

There's an expression in theatre to the effect that to play the king it is not as important how you act but as to how others treat and react to you. Besides, he's already played the Scorpion King! :D

Plenty of room for leeway in the story of Subby. I doubt it'll get deuced before it gets rolling like Catwoman... ;)

People who are very used to comics don't have too much problem with a smaller man able to juggle Buicks without breaking a sweat.
That's becuase most readers of comics are smaller men who would like to be able to juggle Buicks without breaking a sweat. :D

You know, after thinking about it, I'll disagree. The Rock doesn't have the right attitude. When the writing was at it's best, Namor was regal. The Rock is many things, but regal is not one of them.
When the Rock first got big in wrestling he was a pompus arrogant goldenboy who knew he was better than everyone else. Snooty and superior have always been part of his wrestling gimick, I don't think regal would be to far a stretch. Of course there's no telling what we will get, I still think we will get eco-warrior Namor and that will be silly with the Rock.

I think the Rock is a great casting choice, better than Nick Cage who was originally being considered for the part.

Geez. How many Super Hero movies has Nick Cage been connected with? Off the top of my head there is Superman, Ghost Rider and Namor. Any others I'm missing?

While I don't like either Namor or the Rock, I think he can probably play Namor.

You're forgetting a key fact - Nick Cage is a comic book collector and avid reader of superhero comic books! It's only a matter of time until he stars in one. As you've noted, he's wanted to do several and has thrown his hat in the ring, but the start of all of them keeps getting delayed and he moves on to other projects. Personally, I can't think of a hero he'd be right for, but there are a number of sympathetic villains I think he'd do fine with. Perhaps Dr. Conners (the Lizard) in a Spiderman movie, or perhaps Nightmare in a Dr. Strange film.

There's the thing, you see. There's a big difference between bweing arrogant, or high and mighty, and being regal.

When one act high and mighty, it is an act. A form of bullying. Beating others over the head with your position. A truly regal person doesn't need to act in such a way. They radiate status without having to be vulgar or abusive about it.

I have no doubt that the Rock and act like a pompous jerk. I am not at all convinced he can present himself as royal, a natural leader of a nation, without being a pompous jerk.

Cage should have waved his high salary (as his career grew), stipulated he wouldn't be cut during editing, and wormed his way into every supers movie he could as an extra...just for the bragging rights. As Francis Ford Coppola's nephew he's had the clout since day one and despite his changing his name so he could "make his way on his own", I'm sure his pedigree has figured into casting more than a few times anyway.

Oh, I don't know. I thought Cage could be made into a passable Dr. Strange, on looks alone (cuz I can't think of any OTHER comics character he'd look the part of, that'd ever get a movie) :)

You know I agree, perfect eyebrows, attitude, etc.

But one thing bugs me and who could ever imagine someone saying it about a "superhero" movie.... Isn't the rock a little to big? I've always seen Namor with a swimmers build, imagine that, and the rock doesn't have one of those...

All in all a good casting though. :)

Well it took them 30 years, but they finally found a big screen vehicle for Mark Spitz!
