Does a creature (in this case the girallon) with

Atk 4 claws +12 melee (1d4+8), bite +7 melee (1d8+4)

get four attacks on an AOO, or any other attack aside from a full attack? The front of the MM says the full attack action is needed to get both the primary and secondary attacks, but I'm not sure if a full attack is needed for just the claws.

A character hovered between death and enough sneack attack damage to finish off the beast until I decided (because the PC was directly behind the four-armed albino gorilla) to give it two attacks but on the same side of the body, thus subtracting the Rend damage and only knocking the PC unconscious. Seems like a good ruling, even if the rules say give the beastie all four, since the rules don't take facing into account, but I'd like to know what's the real cheese on this one.

A creature with multiple attacks of one type (like the 4 claws above) still only gets one attack for an AoO or standard action. If a troll moves and attacks it only gets one claw, not two.

got a ref for that?

Has that been Sage'd or is there a page ref for that ruling just so's I can feel better about it?

You've got to read the monster manual material rather carfeully, but monsters don't change teh rule - one attack only unless they get a full attack routine, same as everyone else.

Entrie like the girallon are derived from the Multiattack feat that let's them get multiple attacks at the same attack bonus - that's not the same as mutliple attacks when they would normally only get one.
