NC Game Day XVI (April 26-27), aka "GenCon Jr."

Jon Potter said:
Well, I was thinking of finally running a game this time around. I went and updated my profile to request GM's status and everything. But now it looks like there may already be TOO MANY games...

Maybe I'll hold off until next go 'round.

It's frustrating, isn't it? It's like a game of chicken. If you don't post your game early enough, you may not get enough players. But if you do post and still don't get enough players, then the other games are probably full and you can't get in on some action.

I tried to alleviate this for a few Gamedays by being a floating GM, but it didn't seem to be utilized enough to make it worth it.

And I finally posted mine, for Sunday morning as well:

Terror at the World's Fair! (Hollow Earth Expedition-HEX)

It's June 1939 and the world-famous physicist Dr. Lazlo Horvath has invited you, several other distinguished guests, and the press to an evening gala at the New York World's Fair for the unveiling of his latest scientific discovery. In his invitation, the brilliant but eccentric scientist writes that “I have built ze prototype of a Device zat I believe vill cure all of mankind's ills … war, starvation, disease vill become ghosts of ze past ... perhaps even ze end of Death itself!”**

The world is on the brink of being engulfed in the flames of global war yet again. Horvath's claims, if true, could very well be the fulfillment of the idealistic dream of the World’s Fair itself: the World of Tomorrow, where the wonders of science and technology can and will bring about the brightest of all possible futures, with boundless opportunity for all of mankind, and lasting peace around the globe.

On a warm and beautiful summer's evening, under the watchful eye and guard of the New York Police Department's finest, you and the other attendees will be witness to the revelation of one of the most amazing and astounding discoveries in mankind's history... as it goes horribly, terribly, and inexorably wrong!!!

---

This game will be everything you've come to expect from a pulp game and much, much more: non-stop-over-the-top action, with a storyline that is guaranteed to go off the rails, chock full of gunplay, deeds of derring-do, mystery, intrigue, nail-biting suspense, the lost secrets of ancient civilizations, weird science, cool gadgets, flying machines, and of course, Nazis and [TBD]***!!!!

This game will use the Ubiquity system from Hollow Earth Expedition/Secrets of the Surface World. No knowledge of the game system is needed, and an awesomely awesome set of pre-generated characters will be provided. All you need to bring is both your sense of adventure AND humor and you're all set!

6 players max, 5 seats available (1 reserved) - hopefully I did that right in the event config.

---

** Misspellings are for Dr. Horvath's accented voiceover in your head only; the invitation was undoubtedly proofed for spelling by his secretary before it was sent.

*** [TBD] I can make no commitment at this time with regard to dinosaurs, as no headway has yet been made in negotiations with the Prehistoric and Anachronistic Terrible Lizards Union (PATLU), currently on strike over adventure residuals.

Well, I did it.

I posted my game at the Official Site - pending staff approval of course. Added it to the Sunday a.m. slot, making Sunday the unofficial Day of the Dwarf.

-----------------------------

The Hammer of Thorend Kuldalagh

----------------------------

An adventure inspired by Badaxe Games, intended for 4-6 players who aren't afraid to play the mightiest of PC races: the dwarves! Using D&D 3.5 rules, featuring low magic and action points in a grim quest to find the Hammer of Thorend Kuldalagh. Pre-gen characters will be provided. Scottish accents are purely optional.

-----------------------------

The Thunder Mountains have echoed with the sounds of war since your clan carved out Dwurheim's first tunnel an age ago. Clashes with the elves to the east, the giants to the north, and the ever present threat of the orcs have taken their toll on the dwarven holdings over the centuries. An empire that stretched from one side of the range to the other during your grandfather's day has shrunk through attrition to a few isolated delves. And in the process mighty magics of old have been lost.

But change is in the offing. A treaty with the elves has eased conflict along one border, and giantish raids have dwindled to a few isolated incidents in the last decade. The orcs continue to swarm through the crumbling glory of dwarven empire like so many rats, but that threat seems a manageable one now that more attention can be focused on it. Especially now that word of the Hammer has resurfaced.

Rumor of it came from an unlikely source: the elves of Feywood. Their bards still sing songs of the legendary hero Thorend Kuldalagh, who with his mighty Hammer single-handedly broke the back of an orcish horde in the battle of Norotharglar. In Dwurheim it was thought that no dwarf had survived that battle and that the Hammer of Thorend Kuldalagh must hang in the hall of some orcish despot. But the elves tell a different tale in which Thorend Kuldalagh - bloodied but still very much alive - made it back to the fallen outpost of Sargh-Norothin and was entombed within when kobold sappers collapsed the place from below... sealing his mighty Hammer with him beneath tons of stone.

Someone needs to recover the Hammer of Thorend Kuldalagh, symbol of dwarven prowess. Its return would rally all the delves to unite and crush for once and all the threat of the orcish hordes. Are you and your kin up to the task?

Low Life: Circuspi Nuts Are Forever

Greetings, all! I just submitted a Low Life adventure for the Saturday PM slot. The time slot was decided by a roll of a d3. Below are the brief details:

Having dispatched Horcish warchief Slosh Gawdawful, the heap is requested by Orlozz the Oofo to travel to Pooom to investigate the wholesale purchase of circuspi nuts. Will the heap discover who is behind the purchase of the foul-tasting but nutritious nuts? Is the hoarding of the nuts part of a more sinister plot? Will there be more creme-filled beasts of burden??

I'll be using the Savage Worlds rules that are quick and easy to learn.

To those of you unfamiliar with the Gameday registration site (or may have poor vision), we now have more than 20 games listed for the weekend. The second page link is located both on the upper and lower right sides of the page.

Don't miss out on a game on the second page!

I've been convinced. It's about time I made it out to a gameday again. Thanks for putting this together, people.

Now let's see if I can find my login for the registration site. =P

Hoping to actually know in advance when I need to be at a machine this time round, last time i had planned to do so i found reg still locked, went to work, got back from work only to find most of the slots i had looked at with lust in my evil heart completely full.
