I hate goblins. I hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em! (snip)

So...anyone else have any recent events they'd like to share? Let's all wallow in character self-pity for a while!

EDIT: My character made it out of there. Our shifter fighter carried my body out of the sewers and got me to a healer.

Welcome to 3rd Edition! Where even "just goblins" can have character levels! :p And where even mages with "one whole Fighter level!" should stay the heck out of melee.

If you're going to take a single warrior level with your caster... make it Barbarian (not that you wouldn't have still gotten dropped).

Personally I love that gobbos can have class levels. When I ran a 2ed game my players always walked over gobbos and kobalds, without a care. First time we played 3ed I threw goblin figthers and rouges against them. From that point on, they had alot more respect.

I was under no illusions that my one whole fighter level would make me invincible in a fight. I just needed to balance the tables a little bit. I mean I wasn't even doing as well as the halfling scout (who has a tendancy to run from a fight, leaving me and the pure fighter).

They got the drop on me, plain and simple. I didn't have time to use any of my spells (and I'd planned on using them, damn init rolls!).

And barbarian? Meh. Wouldn't fit the character concept.

On the flip side of the coin, once I recovered at the healers and we moved on to the next part of our mission, I was far more effective, able to bring in more spells and disable no fewer than three of our four attackers. Vertigo, Phantasmal Assailants...and the lowly sleep spell :).

and as to Gobbos having class levels...well as a DM I love the idea. One group I ran for encountered my goblin barbarian with the vampire template.

Those were the days...

I'm actually sympathetic to the goblins, and am ashamed that your character survived. Just because they're viewed as inferior to humans, doesn't give you the right to just send them face-first into sludge. If you really wanted the big monster to waste time on them, instead of pursuing you, you would have left the goblins in the best fighting form possible, so as to buy as many rounds as you could with their lives. "I want these guys to hold off something that can probably kill them easily, so I'll have them start the encounter handicapped!" Brilliant logic, no? Fess up, the reason you tripped the goblin is because you thought you could get away with it, because you thought it was funny, because the act of indiscriminate bullying gave you pleasure. Why should I feel sorry for you?

EDIT -- Sorry, didn't see it was listed under "Humor" :heh:

See, now every seems to be coming into this thread thinking I'm whinging on about my characters poor fate. I'm not. I thought it was funny. Figured everyone else would too.

Besides, its not like I cut a leg off or anything, I tripped him. In the time it took him to stand back up, I would have been long gone. I just wanted to be sure there was something between me and the big bad thing coming up the tunnel.

So it wasn't:

"Man, my character nearly got killed by a goblin after I rightfully pushed its face in the mud! I'm the PC, I'm supposed to be invincible!"

It was:

"Listen to this; last I night I thought I was going to outsmart a monster by tripping a goblin. And the goblin handed me my butt! It was loads of fun!"

And the reason I thought of retiring the PC? Simple, he's from House Medani. Relatively high in the chain of organization. Professional escort and bodyguard. And he got his butt handed to him by a goblin in a sewer! He could never show his face again at home.

See, I love enemies with class levels. It keeps everyone on their toes. None of this, "its just a goblin!" stuff. You can't do that anymore than you can say, "Its just a human!"

Fair enough. I've just seen too many people who DO think they have the right to push around the "lesser" races.

Meh, house Medani is full of cowards and liars anyway. Tell the story, lie about it, either way, it'll most likely improve your station.

--My only Eberron experience was playing a char who's whole life had been destroyed by the actions of a Medani noble, left to flee, town to town, to avoid a bounty on his head. The Medani-hate hate has surprisingly long-lasting taste :)

Hrm....

And your character's name was? When was he in Sharn? How much was the bounty?

I ask only for record-keeping purposes...

:D

Heh. At least you weren't a 13th level Barbarian who died facedown in a bowl of oatmeal (he suffocated in the oatmeal)

Happened to a character run by one of my players. He is still trying to live that down, even though it was a event some three years ago....
