Neck Slot Items

Okay so with boots or belts you can only wear one, and I assume its 2 minor actions to take off your boots and put another pair on in battle to use a different magic effect, or swap weapons.

What about slots such as the neck, and this applies to rings also I guess.

Where in this slot you could possibly be wearing a cloak, and an Amulet, or even a badge.

1. Can you wear all 3 magic items but just apply the magic of one.
2. Can you change which one is being activated ?

And what is the process if you have 3 amulets and you want to change to the other in the middle of a battle.

Swap boots mid combat????? Oh my god!

I know. My response is this to such a player.

'Go buy yourself two pairs of different boots. Excellent. Now put one pair on. All the way. Alright.

'Now when I say 'Go', take one pair off, then put on the other pair, do it up tight, while I poke at your face with this here stick. If you do not want to get thwacked with the stick, you may have to swat it away.

'Okay, that took you 2 minutes, which is 12 rounds total. I'll halve that to 6 rounds because your character is a superhero. And, you were trying to punch me while I poked you with a stick, so that won't provoke attacks of opportunity.

'Oh, those are -magic- boots you say? And what is their magic? Running fast. Not being laced quickly, I'm afraid. Not terribly helpful voodoo there.'

I'd actually let people swap out non-armor worn item as a full-round action. Heck, they've used their resources to invest in two pairs of boots or whatever, and the limit of daily item use helps restrict abuses, so I don't think it break anything.

p.s.

Can humans wear more boots because they get extra feat?

Then there is always the poor monkeyfolk who can't wear shoes, and can only wear gloves on their feet.

You can put exactly one item into each slot.

Not exactly accurate:

You can benefit from only one magic item that you wear in your arms slot, even if practically speaking, you can wear bracers and carry a shield at the same time. You benefit from the item you put on first; any other item you put in the same item slot doesn't function for you until you take off the first item. Sometimes there are physical limitations as well-you can't wear two helms at the same time.

So, someone could put an amulet on and a cloak on, then take the amulet off in combat and the cloak starts functioning.

I think the MOST generous you could possibly be with something like boots would be considering it a standard action to take them off and another standard to put a new pair on. Totally unrealistic but in keeping with the shield equipping rules. Other items generally would be a minor action to equip or unequip, though you may want to make some harder than others. Arm and Leg slot items for instance could easily take considerable time.

Overall 4e is trying to AVOID the golf bag syndrome, so really I'm not all that inclined to be nice to power gamers trying to play the system.
