Necromancer Q&A: Let's ask Orcus some questions!

1. What will the Tome of Horrors III focus on? All new monsters?

2. If Tome of Horrors I is redone ( or 3.5ed), will it get an art boost? Many people I personally know didn't buy Creature Collection Revisited not because they didn't want the updated stats, but because they weren't paying twice for an ugly book. Perhaps cutting out the Necromancer Monsters (putting them in ToH III) and just putting the original D&D critters to cut down on size?

3. Any chance of seeing a sourcebook on the Plane of Agony from ToH II?

4. Any chance for a sequel to Grey Citadel? There is a dearth of city adventures on the market.

BTW, your forums at Necromancer Games rock!

1. Yes, Tome 3 is all new monsters.

2. ToH1 has been 3.5'd but it is not going to be repritned. We'd have to raise the price and redo art. It's just too much of a task. We are looking at doing a streamlined layout of it and do it as a PDF on DTRPG. But right now I dont have the layout time to dedicate to it.

3. Sourcebook on the plane of agony, most likely not. BUT if our City of Brass book, which includes a sourcebook on the Plane of Molten Skies, does real well we will look into another extra-planar sourcebook.

4. Sequel to Grey Citadel? Not likekly. But as for dearth of city adventures, City State of the Invincible Overlord comes out soon. You could literally run a whole campaing with nothing but that book, the city is so full of adventure.

You mentioned:

Actually, Bill is working on Sword of Air right now. He and I both said we wanted to take a little break from development and producing and get back to writing. So he is doing Sword of Air.

I'm glad to hear that SoA (and WoO too??) will see the light of day :D What I want to ask, though, is if Bill's writing SoA, what's your writing project---your return to writing for fun?

I've probably enjoyed the books that you and Bill wrote yourselves the best of the NG products published to date, so I'm definitely curious as to what you're working on for fun and a return to writing. If I'm not prying into secret info, please respond :D

Something was wrong with the art in the ToH? Seriously, what was it?

My writing project?

I am finishing the intro for the Boxed Set. I am also working on a few secret projects (one that will just knock your socks off) and a little "legal matter" that I cant talk about now. Sorry to be so "secret squirrel" about this. That is why I didnt answer your quesiton. Cause my answer is "I cant tell you right now."

As for the art in Tome 1, most of it was great. The demons and devils in particular were wonderful. Some needs updating. But Tome1 was a crazy book, too much content and too low of a cover price. To redo it at the same price and redo art would be a bad financial move. To cut monsters or up the cover price seems cheesy. So I am looking alternatives like doing a streamlined PDF and selling that for a low price. That way people who have it can get the revised version without paying for a whole new book. And developers can get an OGL friendly PDF for cut and paste with the 3.5 versions all updated.

But what you all really need to check out is City State of the Invincible Overlord. I am so impressed with how that thing came out. It is our best product to date. I knew it would be good, real good. But when you actually see it in print is when you can measure it. And it just all came together. The scope of the thing is unbelievable. The content is just jam packed and great. There is nothing like it out there. And the maps. Get ready to drool.

Orcus, I noticed this is in Hardcover format, but earlier you touted this as a boxed set. Any reason for the change?

I'm looking forward to it myself.

We did originally concieve of our CSIO as a boxed set (and said so in an initial press release). But as we worked up the product we just couldnt find a way to do a boxed set that made sense.

It is a beautiful hardback with an awesome fold out two sided map of the city.
