Necromancer Q&A: Let's ask Orcus some questions!

2. ToH1 has been 3.5'd but it is not going to be repritned. We'd have to raise the price and redo art. It's just too much of a task. We are looking at doing a streamlined layout of it and do it as a PDF on DTRPG. But right now I dont have the layout time to dedicate to it.

Please, please, please look into getting your products dual posted on the WW site in non-DRM versions like Monte Cook's are. I would really like to buy a non-DRM pdf of 3.5 TOHI. (and II, and III as well).

Orcus, I've heard other companies say the same but you guys seem to say it the most -- "our schedule is full through 2006". I'm just curious about the business realities that drive having a lockstep schedule of releases and no margin to add anything else in.

Is this basically completely spelled out in your deals with your distributors?

This is what I understand about how Necromancer operates, so errors are likely. There are essentially two people in Necromancer, the owners who are Bill and Clark. They have a pool of talents that number around 10 people, they are the ones who have written the modules, aside from Bill and Clark, the Tome of Horrors, do the Cartography and layout.

Then, after thier talents are done they send the product of to whomever is going to actually do the publication, usually White Wolf or Troll Lord Games. The publishers are the ones who do final layouts and send it off to be printed.

From what I understand this is where most of the product "bottle neck" occurs. White Wolf and Troll Lords only have so much "space" available in which to fit Necromancers products. This is where/when the product schedule becomes "locked in".

There are a number of other considerations/decisons that effect all of this as well, but the "space available" in White Wolfs and Troll Lord Games production departments are the biggest factor in the product release schedule.

Hopefully Orcus/Bill will return home soon and give you a far more accurate explanation.

Any progress on the layout situation for ToH3.5? Would an external layout 'artist' be able to speed up the process?

Well, unless I can actually buy it and use it at home, where I have no internet connection, I'm failing to see how this will add value. As I understand it, you cannot use the DRM unless you activate it on that computer. If I'm wrong, fantastic.

Am I the only one who doesn't have an internet connection at home and uses PC's at libraries and work?

That is why he wants a non-DRM version, and why I want them too. I only have one computer hooked up to the internet and I would like to be able to put these files on all the computers I own. I probably could connect my laptop, but I only connect one computer to the internet for virus considerations, and why I do not network my computers.

Tome of Horrors 3.5

I too would love to buy a 3.5 version of the Tome of Horrors on PDF! Please, Please, Please! Hopefully someday you'll get some extra time and a chance to publish it!

Its not exactly on the top of our priority list, but I will see what we can do.

My thought is to just do a totally stripped no art version as a 3.5 revision of Tome1 (which, frankly, some people could just use as it is) and also have it serve as kind of a mini-Tome1 SRD.
