Alright, after taking everyone's advice into consideration, here's where I sit:

1: Benign Transportation, Disguise Self, Familiar Pocket, Magic Missile, Serene Visage
2: Combust, Command Undead, Glitterdust, Invisibility
3: Dispel Magic, Slow, Suggestion
4: Charm Monster, Ruin Delver's Fortune
5: Greater Blink

Don't forget the +10 enhancement bonus on bluff, diplomacy and intimidate. As a mindbender he's likely to need social skills to manipulate charmed opponents and minions. The "two actions to use" thing is only going to be an issue if he's ambushed, since a 10 min/level duration is enough to last through most "dungeons". Also, it's +1 caster level for sorcerers.

It surely has its advantages... but I don't think they are enough to really make it better (together with a free 3rd-level spell choice) than Suggestion and a free 4th-level choice.

The two actions are a limiting factor, since you need to cast it ahead of time, when you maybe do not need it; and when it is used up, you cannot simply follow up with another one. Maybe not overly big in many situations, but still noticeable I assume.

Yeah, it got changed in SC. Sorcerer/Wizard 4, Bard 4, and a couple of the options got changed/removed. The first three remain, and then there's one that gives you 4d8+Cha temp. hitpoints.

Ruin delver's fortune pales in comparison with wings of cover (Sor 2, Races of the Dragon, so not available to the OP).

Someone tries to cast disintegrate on you? "Not today, thanks."
