Need Campaign World suggestions

With all of the new settings out now, I need some help picking out a new settings. While I use to create my own the new options and information needed to run a detailed world is more than I am able to handle along with my groups increasing desire for more story and background the I am use to.

I want some thing with lower power levels then FR but still close to the book in power level. The setting will need to have lots of support besides adventures. The third condition it will need to be fairly traditional in its approach. SL is a little to unconventional for my current group.
I have heard of but not seen or run in Grayhawk, and Kalemar. I look to get information about them or any similar setting, including what books to buy, a general description of the feel of the world.

Thanks

Try Kalamar

Kalamar sounds like the setting you're describing. It's very realistic and "traditional" with a lot of room for DMs to add their own flavor. Kalamar is getting a lot of support and only seems to be getting better.

Not to mention, there's a thread on the boards where Mark Plemmons is actually giving away free Kalamar stuff and the Kenzer & Company web page has a Kalamar introductory special going on on their web page.

I actually dropped an 18 year Greyhawk campaign to run Kalamar and I haven't been sorry.

Kalamar is cool but I hate the way all the names sound like they were pooped out of a crappy fantasy name generator. Very annoying.

Greyhawk is good because there is a ton of 1st and second edition material you can use for information on the setting, each of the splatbooks and dragon has greyhawk specific stuff, and the 3.0 full gazeteer (not the little one) is very good. The older edition material can be gotten as pdfs for about $5 each at www.rpgnow.com and www.svgames.com. There is no core product full sourcebook support for the world anymore though.

Kalamar is lower magic than the FR but only in the number of High powered archmages, not their existence or viability in the setting. It has excellent support material both sourcebook and modules.

Otherwise there are a ton of other worlds but the amount of support varies.

Thanks for the info people.

I have droped my name for the free Kalamar item. I hoping to compare it to Grayhawk.

Never hear of Arcanis. Does any one know what it is like?

Scarred Lands! :) And just what's wrong with being unconventional? ;) Or better still, Arcana Unearthed! If they aren't newbies, this is definately something for them. (Especially if they've done D&D for a while.)

I'd go with Dragonlance! The world of Krynn is being revived for gamers this month with the release of the Campaign Setting and the Age of Mortals book. More products (including a DM's screen, monster book, a 3 part mega adventure and others) are planned for release in the coming months. The setting also has over 100 books to provide you with backstory!

More info @ www.dragonlance.com. Enjoy.
