Need Class Suggestions

I'm wondering what the fighter is doing that he gets outdamaged by the rogue.
Well this is how he figures it.
The fighter uses a dwarves waraxe and has a 17str so her max damage on one swing with no crit is 13. My rogue duel wields a rapier and a impact shortsword and has 13str so if I roll a 3 on every dice and only hit once I will deal 3 damage + 9 sneak attack + 1str = 13. So without rolling max damage I deal as much damage as the fighter who rolled max damage if not much much more.

Sounds like a DM problem to me.

I'd probably play a Human Factotum/Iaijutsu Master if I was looking to bug the DM, but it sounds to me like you should just give up and play a Druid and cheese out completely since your DM seems to be of the opinion that only
spell-casters should be allowed good things (and yes, I know that charge is bandied aroudn too often, but this seems to be a clear case) and is going to simply disallow anything that's even tier 3 for a martial class.

Actually my DM hates druids and says they suck because they r useless in caves or buildings. And he also love barbarians. I have also never seen a Druid played effectively so if you can give me advice on playing one to max potential I might give it a try.

No flanking? No feinting? No sundering?
I know the perfect class: "Running a D&D Game 101" is a class this DM clearly
needs to take.

Oh, you mean a class for your PC! In that case, I'll second Dandu's
suggestion. There's nothing like a sorceror to mess with a DM. Or else second Celebrim's suggestion, and go with a druid.

The problem I foresee is that the DM will just force-gimp those classes, too, when you show how they even more effective than the rogue. I really think
the DM needs a little schooling on how to handle things more elegantly and/or graciously. Showing him up will just make the problem worse. Good luck, though.

I'm actually fine with no sundering because that means he won't do it to us. I'm also the only character that can't flank because he cursed me for deal sneak attack damage. I also have been friends with him for along time so we both go back and forth driving the other insane.

What sorcerer spells would be most effective at driving him insane and I still need some damage spells like magic missile.

Thanks again for all the suggestions this problem is driving me insane

Tell him to open the PHB and read Wizard spells real quick and then remake his terrible ruling on sneak attack.

Also druids are crazy effective, if you saw me play mine tears might fall from your DM. I melee better than our fighter.

Leaving aside the fact that sneak attack is useless in several situations and against a wide variety of enemies...

17 Str = +3 mod. 2 handed fighting gives a damage bonus of +4.

1d10+4 damage is 9.5 on average.

Fighters get Weapon Specialization, which adds 2 to the damage. That's 11.5 damage on average.

Fighters get Power Attack and better BAB, along with feats like Weapon Focus that boost to-hit. He could PA for 2 comfortably, which results in 15.5 damage per hit.

This is just very basic optimization. For example, if he took Combat Expertise and Improved Trip, he can trip something and then PA for more since he would then be attacking a prone enemy who takes a -4 penalty to AC.

And as for druids...

He worships at the feet of melee types? Run a Feral Half-Orc Barbarian. Even though it sounds like the fighters in the game are from Basic D&D, in terms of smart design (not even "optimization").

Great Axe w/Improved Crit, and then run up the power attack feat tree. Go Barb1/Ftr3 withthe +1ECL from the feat. You can take more Barb levels if you like but FTR3 is a prerequisite for one of the weapon feats you want.

You get fast battlefield movement, huge damage, and fast healing, Rage, good saves at 1st level, a good number of skills despite the INT hit. (Note: You'll end up with 1 skill point a level after creation, since FTR gets a base 2 and your INT is likely to be <=10, so make the most of that starting group.)

Aside from the Feral template, it's pure PHB, and you can sell the template by claiming it's for game color, to create a true wild man type.

Note that this type of character isn't intended for the long run. He's intended for shock value, to force your DM to actually read the rules and see if, someplace inside the books, he can find a clue.

It will also help show the other fighter players what a real melee fighter looks like.

At some point not long after your point has been made he'll probably ask you to retire the character, or just plain kill him by DM fiat. He sounds like the type.

When he does, ask if you can bring your Rogue back. He'll seem positively reasonable by comparison. :)

You can buff your animal companion and allies while debuffing your enemies with things like Entangle.

At level 6, you take Natural Spell and spend all day in the form of a Dire Ape, which can wear all the gear your regular form could and has great physical stats. And you get to cast spells in this new form.

Your DM is a shortsighted idiot. I get that he's your friend, but I'm sorry, anyone who stops and reads the class for even a little while quickly develops a grasp of just how incredibly potent the class is.

I also have been friends with him for along time so we both go back and forth driving the other insane.

That doesn't mean you can't tell him that his way of playing is problematic. If you don't have fun playing the game perhaps he should know.

I'd advise you to talk to him calmly, give him a few examples for this and that... and even invite him in this forum...

Going after him, even with the most broken class ever, you won't win, because he's the one making the decisions. He will stop you just like he stopped you before.
