Need Help To Make/Find My Perfect D&D

Sorry, I play Savage Worlds, and it is a fantastic system, really falling in love with it (much like I LOVE D6) it isn't what I am looking for at all... I am looking for a very specific thing and thus far it seems I need to use Castles & Crusades with some hacks to bring the Class abilities, Racial Abilites, Multiclassing and Feats in line with it. Hell I might even live with the Siege engine if I really had to ;)

You could run pathfinder and just ignore all the special combat mechanics like grappling, cover, concealment, etc. Cut out anything you don't want to deal with and it shouldn't affect your game. Then you could start dropping in some of those rules later if you feel like adding variety.

I've already ruled out D&D Next, but I know nothing about Moldvay... Races as class right? Do classes actually have class abilities?

Clerics, Elves, and Wizards have spells, and Thieves have thieving abilities, etc.

It's like AD&D, with the fiddly bits ripped out, and you can easily add to it's basic chassis (much like 5th Ed, though, I know now you have ruled it out).

Interesting, but Moldvay is not really what I am looking for either. I think C&C hacked or BFRP expanded might be the way I am wanting to go in the end. Since my sweet spot has elements of 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions in it. Time to roll up the sleeves, choose a chassis and start building :)

You said that you like E6 in your first post, right? Is there a reason that E6 isn't working for your D&D of choice? It keeps the game streamlined, while still allowing all of the stuff that most people think of when they think "Dungeons and Dragons". I'm just wondering why you can't tweak E6 to be what you want.

The problem with 3.5 RAW is all the fiddley bits of skills, etc... It bogs down heavily. I also cannot stand encounter creation, I just don't have THAT much free time and also there has always been a certain amount of "roll with it" GMing, where I can react to my players on the fly, and making encounters on the fly in 3.5 can lead to TPK quite easily I have learned... the hard way ;)
