D&D General Need Idea for Magical Terminology.

Is the term something for gameplay and for players to understand or for the NPCs in the game to use in common discussion? If it is for players, then just use something simple to get the point across like meta-magic or high magic. If it is in character, then use anything. Cesar did not mean Cesar/emperor/king/ruler until Cesar made it so. The first all-powerful caster may have been named Buckets and the term BUCKS is now what everyone uses. Add some backstory to the world.

Maybe a neologism deriving from "adept":

Ring of Adeption

(Note, adeption is also an obsolete English term meaning "obtainment", and this sense works too.)

Just call them...
  • "Arcane Points/Ring of the Arcane" or "Ring of Arcana"?
  • Get fancy/faux academic... "Arcanum Points/the Ring Arcanum"
  • Get mysterious... "Occult Points/Ring of the Occult" or "Ring of Unknown Magic" or "Unknown Power."
  • Get Ye Olde English-ish or Low Germanic... "Wiccian" or "Wicken" Points/"Ring of Wickening" or "the Wiccian Ring." (make an in-world legendary archmage named "Wiccian")
  • Get simple... "Spellshaping" or "Spellbending" Points/"Ring of Spellshaping"
